Re: Missing University of Utah Student

[ Edited ]

SeaGal, thank you for this update, which appears to be a tragic one.  I did not know of this yet.

I am very saddened by this news.  Why, why, why?

Why did she go down this wormhole in her life?  She seemed like a self-sufficient person, working in a lab and somewhere else (do not recall).  Took classes.

As for why people hire for you-know-what, we know that is as old as time.  However, I will go on record and blame the Internet for bringing all kinds of crapola into the homes and minds of folks who, otherwise, would not be viewing such matter.  Yes, there's always been magazines, etc., but now I sense there is so much easily available at the click of a mouse.

Baser appetites are stoked.  So much rape going on.  "Regular" people doing these acts.   I really mean regular, but someone will most likely argue they are not regular.  I think they are and they got their head filled with insane ideas.

I feel very sorry for Ms. Lueck's family and friends.  May they have the strength to go forward if the worst I and others are thinking proves to be.

Actions have consequences. There is more to the story than any of us know. I fear this young lady may have paid a very high price for her choices.

Re: Missing University of Utah Student

@golding76 , thinking back on interviews of her friends, I did notice what I thought was strange facial language on a couple girls when asked if she belonged to any dating sites on the net or anything like that, kind of a strange pause before saying no, not that I know of. I am so sad for her family and friends.  Smiley Sad

The LED just did a news conference, apparently the homeowner is a person of interest of course, he had given a mattress and box spring last week and are wanting who ever picked it up to call them. They removed bags of evidence from the home and towed his car.

I guess if you are looking for the boogie man you dont have to look much farther than your computer. So scarey.

Re: Missing University of Utah Student

So she was on Sugar Daddy sites?

They are not all that uncommon.

I remember a year or two ago, maybe it's been longer, Lisa Ling did an episode of her show, I think it was called "Our America".

She showed that it's not uncommon for college girls to use Sugar Daddy sites, and to form a relationship of sorts.

From what I remember, it's more of a business relationship than a sexual one, while sex can be a part of it, it isn't necessarily a part of every relationship.

There are contracts that spell out what is expected from each party.

I'll provide you companionship, accompany you to events, parties, etc, and in exchange, you'll pay for my schooling.

The guy doesn't have to go through the rigmarole of the pretense of dating, where romantic feelings may become involved, and the girl gets her college paid for.

It's a win-win for them.

What can I say, Anonymous?  I am unhappy to read that this is commonplace.  Perhaps her family did not have enough money for her college education; this could explain the additional jobs.  Sorority membership has fees, too, as I recall.  Still, I hope she did not resort to the oldest profession (even if modified) to pursue an education.

Such an arrangement smacks of what used to called an escort service.  If you live in a town with loose morals or, in this case, laced-up, tight morals, maybe they are more common.

Even I was once asked if I wanted to join one.  How did this happen to someone not looking at the underbelly of life back in the early 1970s?  This is how:

I was transferred by my national company to Miami, a town I hated upon sight (apologies to Miami lovers).  The company paid for two trips down there until I could find something affordable to rent.  Fortunately, one of my colleagues was with me on my hunt on the second trip.

We found a service that advertised help with finding a place.  After meeting and speaking with a young and good-looking guy about finding an apartment, he asked me if I had any interest in accompanying men out on dates to nice places, etc.   Whaaat?  Always curious, I asked a few other questions about this questionable sort of arrangement and then asked the big one:  Are you expected to la-dee-da?

He gave an equivocal answer, like well, if it ends up that way.

That did it!  I loathed this town, that's all I knew.  In those days we looked at ads in the newspaper, and believe me, the propositions I heard over the phone.  I kept my male manager abreast of all the problems I was having.  Fortunately, my best friend lived in Miami Springs and I stayed with her until I found a place of my own.  But I had several "adventures" before landing that place.

(Not sure I made this clear, but the young guy was representing two businesses.  I think the apartment-finding service was a way of getting females into the office, and that part of the "sell" was to ensnare young and economically strained women.  The business I went there for wasn't fully a front but close to being one.  By the way, the office location was in a lovely building.  All very nice.)

Re: Missing University of Utah Student

As I said/thought somewhere, seems as though she was going to meet either someone married and/or someone well-known in the community.

If it was an online meet-up first date, she would have met him in the daytime, right?

Oh, well........I guess I'm 'old-fashioned' regarding dating.

Re: Missing University of Utah Student

p.s.  Nothing good ever happens while walking around in a park or woods in the middle of the night.

If it's not a human problem, there's always nocturnal critters roaming around.  Bears, mountain lions, coyotes, racoons, etc., etc.

During the night, there's always something lurking around.

Wishing this girl well, and hoping for her safe return.

It would be nice if she were dropped off in a fairly public place, alive and well.

It's happened before.

Trolling for Sugar Daddys, even during daylight hours seems most unwise imo.

Re: Missing University of Utah Student

The Sugar Baby/Sugar Daddy arrangement isn't "dating", as others suggest, it's a arrangement for cash/gifts/material things. I doubt anyone was paying for out of state tuition. Maybe she scored a pricey phone or a nice handbag.

Met the nicest college kid today. He's working two part time jobs this summer so he can afford to return to his second year in the fall.

He lamented that it's hard to get a college girl to date a guy who is struggling juggling books, tuition and work.

Whatever her reasons, I just feel sorry for her. I can't think of a worse way to make a living.  It horrifies me that  this sort of thing is glamorized

These types of situations rarely end well..the poor girl
