I do not get to read these boards very often anymore but every time I do, I search for my neighbor to the east in Wisconsin, Alpine Blossom...
I was really thinking of her today while listening to Christmas carols. Last year she delighted many of us by posting the lyrics to Silent Night in German:
Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht,
Alles schläft; einsam wacht
Nur das traute hochheilige Paar.
Holder Knabe im lockigen Haar,
Schafe in himmlischer Ruh!
Schafe in himmlischer Ruh!
I was happily singing along when... HUH??? What in the world... Alpine Blossom had me singing:
Schafe in himmlischer Ruh! (Sheep in heavenly Peace!) when it should have been:
Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh! (Sleep in heavenly Peace!)
Several of us caught the slip-up and we all (including Alpie) had a good laugh.
To be honest, I will never again be able to sing Silent Night in either English or German without thinking of our dear Alpine Blossom and her sheep in heavenly peace.
Merry Christmas with love to Alpine Blossom, wherever you may be!!!
And if any of you still visit with dear Alpie, please send her my love...
