I suppose I should have ignored this post, but . . .
Just look at the titles of plenty of other posts on this whole forum. People are announcing they "hate" this or that, or refuse to watch some show, or are sick of something else. What is all that but under the broad category of "haters"? Clearly they are here, there, and on every other forum all over the world. Putting glasses back on . . .
@GingerPeach - Sorry for my post, I guess I misunderstood when your topic said about using the ignore button. I did not think you were referring to people who just complain about products. My impression of the ignore button was to filter out trouble makers. For people who are claiming to hate a product, that's just their opinion.
Again sorry.

perhaps along with the heart button we should have a "love glasses" button to cast ignoring in a positive light! OP you should market these glasses - i would buy to keep out negativity as it pops up - in life!

Refusing to watch a tv show is being a hater now?

Random Interwebs Person: You're an awful person! Blah, blah, Blah......
Me:..........Hmm?.....Oh, sorry. Not listening. Too busy looking at gorgeousness.

Not to worry. The term "haters" has come to mean negative people, or complainers, and so on, as a more general term than just actual "hate."
Also, the good old ignore button can be used however anyone wants to. It was never just meant for screening out mean posters. Someone could also use it to screen out the posts of someone that you might have learned is just negative all the time. It's totally up to the user how he or she wants to use it.

Typically, the way I see it used most often, here and elsewhere, is by people who classify, in their own minds, anyone who doesn't like someone or something as a "hater." If you don't praise the person/thing, if you say anything at all negative, you're a "hater." People who can't deal with different POV or opinions but don't have the intellectual ability to engage any other way than to spit "hater!!" at the person whose opinion they dislike. It always puts me in mind of 13 year old girls.
