LOL Junebug, I too prefer the salt. Had to laugh at the "salt lick" part. Chips, my danger food. If it tastes good, I can start in on them and if I don't portion them out, bad news!!

Yes, I do mindless eat...wasn't so bad when I worked....couldn't get to the food all day...but now I am retired...and the kitchen is only a few steps away...
I wish I liked vegetables as much as I like junk food....

It's slowing down and taking the time to really perceive what you're doing. Walking, listening to music, etc.
Mindful eating is also big. Slow down to take the time to experience chewing and tasting. There's even a book out about it, and there are online sites explaining it.

Many people who struggle with food react mindlessly to their unrecognized or unexamined triggers, thoughts, and feelings. In other words, they re-act-repeating past actions again and again-feeling powerless to change. Mindfulness increases your awareness of these patterns without judgment and creates space between your triggers and your actions.
For example, whenever you notice that you feel like eating and pause to ask the question, “Am I hungry?”, you are able to observe your thoughts and choose how you will respond. Instead of reacting mindlessly, mindfulness gives you response-ability. That is how mindful eating empowers you to finally break old automatic or habitual chain reactions and discover options that work better for you.

My biggest mindless eating trigger is eating stuff that people bring in to work and leave to "share" in the office. I HATE HATE HATE this practice. At home, I don't have junk to eat, but it as work all the time. Do people really think that in an extremely overweight society, this is a good idea?

Boy if you could figure out the secret to that you could make millions! I know I would buy into your secret. I love veggies but they just cannot compare to lime flavored tortilla chips and fat free ranch dressing. Fat free is my trying to be a bit healthier.

I just found two products that I really like. Unsweetened vanilla silk almond milk and Jay Robb vanilla protein powder. I am now drinking my lunch at work while walking. This leaves me full until dinner and blood sugar level. No mid afternoon sleeply periods. It comes in large packages so my next one will be the 80oz package.

I lost 30 lbs. two years ago and have kept it off. I'm so happy about it and am obsessively careful about what I eat because I don't want to go back. Before I eat, I think, "Am I really hungry or just looking for something to put in my mouth?" Usually it's the latter. Sometimes a cup of coffee or tea will suffice.
