Below is an update from the weather channel at 1045 PM.

(I feel so bad for everyone. I still have brother and family w out power in another area of PA. I emailed to text and told them they are welcome here. They are waiting it out cause they are close to work for Monday, IE ones in the medical profession. I hope they take us up on it if its not on tomorrow).

It could take weeks to restore power to millions of people left in the dark by Tropical Storm Irene.

More than five million people and businesses remain without power, and the storm had led to the deaths of at least 20 people in eight states by Sunday evening. Some areas in its path, like Manhattan, were relatively unscathed by the weekend storm, while other areas will need days, or even weeks, to recover.

Northeast

  • New York (statewide) - 951,325 customers without power
  • The New York Stock Exchange has backup generators and can run on it's own, a spokesman said. The exchange expects to open as ususal Monday morning.
  • New Jersey - 392,000 outages
  • Connecticut - almost 750,000 customers without power. Officials cut power to Bridgeport because of flooding concerns

Mid-Atlantic

  • Maryland - approx. 750,000 outages
  • Virginia - More than 1.1 million customers without power (equals more than 2.5 million people)
  • Washington D.C. - reporting 193,230
  • Delaware - reporting 36,000 customers without power
  • Pennsylvania - 766,000 without power

Carolinas

  • North Carolina - more than 450,000

New England

  • Massachusetts - 519,300 without power.
  • Rhode Island - 200,000 customers without power. According to the governor, nearly half the state is without power.
  • New Hampshire - 165,000 customers without power
  • Vermont - 18,000 without power
  • Maine - 200,000 without power

Isabel 2003 4.5 million
Katrina 2005 3 million(estimate)
