The closest I have ever come to fainting is when I went on a tour of the Hoover Dam (years ago) and had to wait outside for the tour to start. It was 118!!!!! I'll never forget that heat.

I've never taken the tour and have no desire to.

Re: Might be moving to Las Vegas....thoughts?

I have lived here in Vegas for 20 years, and honestly I have had enough.

The heat is not the problem. You do get used to it. It is not cheap to live here.

The price of houses have risen so much again, they are once again unaffordable for the

salaries here. The people are not friendly. The health care is not good.

The schools are not good.

I am moving back east within the next 6 months.

Regarding Primm aside from the casinos and the mall there is not much out there.

I have always wondered where all the employees live. I assume Henderson as that is the closest. I was just out there this past Saturday to get lottery tickets. We stopped in the mall after and it was practically deserted. The casino was not that crowded either.

I do suggest coming to see for yourself before you make the move.

I wish you the best what ever your decision is.

I have friends that have lived in Henderson for 25 years. Just make sure you have a pool and good air conditioning.

I agree with you on two of them, healthcare and schools. Bad schools are not unique to LV though, it's a nationwide problem.

I have friends who live t in Vegas and in Southern Cal. In Vegas they live in Summerlin, a suburban area. They moved there from Seattle, and their biggest complaint besides the weather was that there was no greenery, water, or mountains. It was so brown and flat to them. They don't stay there during the summer months at all. Winters are nice though, and not too far from Vegas is Red Rock Canyon with its many hiking trails, wild horses and donkeys, and lovely scenery. Of course, there is always big name entertainment and other arts to partake in.

Las Vegas sits in a valley surrounded by mountains.

Oh please. Not like the Cascades or the Olympics.

I'm sure that all the residents of both Las Vegas and Phoenix thank you for the geography lesson. I guess both cities are surrounded by big hills. {#emotions_dlg.blink}

Since you are determined to take everything I say as an offense, I'd like to point out that my friends who live there mentioned the flatness and the brown landscape. They were used to looking at Mount Rainier from their living room. And yes, to them there are hills and there are mountains. I mentioned the beauty of Red Rock Canyon since I have hiked there and I also mentioned other positive things about Vegas, but you chose to ignore that. So be it. I'm done.

Re: Might be moving to Las Vegas....thoughts?

I have been to Primm and other than the huge mall and casino, not much going on. However, that does not mean it's a bad thing. It is close to California.

I have family in Summerlin and DH and I almost bought there in 2009 when the prices dropped. Another poster mentioned the bad school system which is true but, if you don't have kids, no problem.

I personally do not care for Henderson. Mesquite has a fairly new Del Webb.

As for the climate, Mt. Charleston is always an option if you have mega-bucks.

Happiness is what you make it.

I didn't take offense at it, I just found it humorous.

Stay out of the casinos!

and,

Drink more water than you've ever had in your life! We were there for a few days several years ago and I felt myself drying out even though I constantly had a bottle of water with me. It's unbelievable dry.

Re: Might be moving to Las Vegas....thoughts?

One thing Hdn/Las Vegas is not, is boring.

Other than that be prepared to pay between $200 and $500 per month on your electric bill for air conditioning during the summer depending on the size of your house, how well it is insulated, etc.
