Re: Mid-West States Fall Break for Students?

I do not think our school calendar for the following year was published until after the April Board meeting.

I would call the school and ask as calendars vary from district to district.

Interesting. I'm in Ohio and I've never heard of a fall break.  Students around here have winter break and spring break other than being out for summer. That is it.

@Peppertime

I am from the Midwest(Iowa), and individual school districts set their own calendars using state guidelines set by the state education department. Our local district has not announced a calendar for next year yet.

Minnesota has an annual break in October. It is during an education conference which occurs on the third Thursday & Friday of Oct. This year it is October 21 & 22.  I believe some districts take off Wednesday or the following Monday in addition to Thursday & Friday. We often vacation in MN during the fall & have seen specials for "MEA" week for families. I know it occurs every year. Perhaps, someone living in MN could add additional information.

Edited to add conference date

I'm from IL outside St. Louis.  The district we live in and the surrounding districts do not take a fall break-just one between Christmas and New Year and another near Easter if we have not used all snow days alloted for the school year.  If the district uses all snow days, they then may elect to continue school instead of taking a spring break or they may stay in school a few days longer instead of ending around Memorial Day-it is up to the district.

just curious.......for those who do get a fall break and others.......how many days do schools have to be in session?

Re: Mid-West States Fall Break for Students?

Hi Pepper. I'm in Oklahoma and for the first time in 12 years the schools are going to have different fall breaks this year.My husband and I were planning our fall break vacation and realized our kids have different fall break dates this year. They are a week apart. We called the schools to make sure it wasn't a district mistake and it's not. Looks like no vacation this fall for us. You can look up the dates on the district or schools calendar. Give them a call if you're still not sure.....I know our principal was as surprised as we were about the schools letting out different weeks for fall break. That will put a damper on lots of families vacationing together this fall.

Sunshine45, we've lived all over the country and never experienced fall break until we lived in Texas and Oklahoma. The break is only 2 days and one of those is parent -teacher conference day. One child of mine has 173 school days a year, the other 181. We start school the 2nd week of August, so having a Thursday and Friday off in mid October is nice for the kids. School is out for the summer June 1st.

Maybe for year-round schools.
