Any opinions thus far on the finery worn?  The theme for the event is the Gilded Age, but many attendees have ignored the suggestion.  Billie Eilish, below, appears to have read and digested the memo.

Striking: The bad guy singer put a gothic twist on the look with her messy black hair styled in an updo, while sporting a black choker around her neck

Khloe Kardashian, however, is following her typical playbook.

@golding76  I think Billie's gown is beautiful and spot on. She did it up right.

@golding76 In case you care, there is a thread in Fashion with lots more photos.  F.Y.I.

I wondered why there wasn't a thread on this yet.

Thank you for letting me know.  The Fashion category makes sense, of course, but I think of the Met Gala as bigger than that -- it is an event.

I will now go over to Fashion and see what has been written.

I agree with Kim (who is wearing Marilyn Monroe's Happy Bday gown) and Blake Lively . No on Jessica Chastain

A ridiculous event for the 1%.

ellaphant, I agree that it is a frivolity.

The Met Gala is a big event in certain circles, and for those people who long to attend and be seen, it is a moment of triumph.

I enjoy discovering who was invited by Anna Wintour and seeing what they wore (even when I think their choice was horrific).

Actually, not ridiculous at all. The event raises money for the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute.
I guess if you don't care about the preservation of historic artifacts, it could be considered a waste.
