Re: Men or women Doctors....any preference?

I prefer women Pcp's and women gyn docs but I have no preference when it comes to specialists.

Re: Men or women Doctors....any preference?

I want a doctor who will talk to me.  Listen to me.  I want a doctor who does not order test upon test just because he or she can.  I have traded off doctors for this purpose and have survived over 30 years without over doing anything.

I am allergic to meds, and when I  avoid them I am  much healthier.  Example, I was borderline in two areas..meds were prescribed.  The cure was worse than the disease and all I had to do was exercise and watch my weight.  Statins just about crippled me.  So much for that.   And now daily aspirin in suspect for cancer and internal bleeding.  Just came out.

So male or female, does not matter.  I have had both and have been happy or unhappy depending upon how I was treated.

My  motto, everything in moderation.

Re: Men or women Doctors....any preference?

I prefer women doctors for "women" issues but I do go to a male dentist.  I would go to a male doctor for knee issues, etc. but breast exam, pap, etc....I need a WOMAN doctor. I just feel more comfortable.

Doesn't matter to me.

My PCP is female, ENT and Cardio are males.  I have two friends who are retired doctors ... one female and one male.

all my doctors are female,  the only one that isn't is my ophthalmologist who happens to be wonderful,  he's an exception.  If I have the choice though I chose a women .  I do find them more compassionate and easier to talk to especially if it is a gynecologist lets face it they have been there lol

Re: Men or women Doctors....any preference?

Yesterday I went for my dental cleanings. I have a female dentist who is an absolute sweetheart. I can’t say enough good things about her. She sits beside me and visits and asks questions about me and what’s going on in my life. Depending on what I’d said, she frequently would put her hand on my arm, and I appreciate that about her because I’m that type of person, too. I like that connection. I wonder if some people would feel uncomfortable if she had been male.  I’m not sure but I’m very comfortable with her.

Re: Men or women Doctors....any preference?

Good experiences with both, however, young, female doctor failed to diagnose gall bladder problems for 9 months when I kept telling her I thought that was the problem. Switched to male doctor in his 60s. First visit he scheduled a test -- gall bladder functioned at 20% and was out within a few weeks. So -- I like a doctor, male or female, with some experience. Husband had a lot of male nurses during a recent stay in the hospital and was impressed.

Re: Men or women Doctors....any preference?

I have both but generally prefer women. I found going to a male gynecologist traumatic so decades ago sought out a female on-gyn. In those days, they were scarce.

That’s a great question. Some people favor one gender over the other for various reasons. For myself, I look at ratings, qualifications, and experience.

I do perfer WOMAN doctor over men.

I find some times men don't listen well to what woman say. sometimes men dismiss what women are saying and tell her it is all in her head. I am not saying ALL men doctors do this all the time, just every now/then  I find that.

I did have a lady doctor when i first moved here, but she moved away and i chose the only doctor next in line a man. He is OK, tho sometimes I don't think he listens to me at times. have been with him for close to 20 yrs.
