MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis Zoo officials have banned a woman after saying she climbed over a barrier to the enclosure where lions are kept and tried to feed them cookies.
The unidentified woman's actions were reported by other zoo patrons, who saw her jump the barrier and heard her singing to the animals. After the barrier, only wire separates guests from the lions inside the enclosure.
"[She was singing] some song that was telling how much she missed them. It was bizarre," witness Michelle Beasley told Memphis station WMC-TV. "I've never seen someone singing to a lion. It was really loud."
Zoo spokeswoman Abbey Dane told WMC-TV the woman's behavior was dangerous for her and the lions. She said the woman won't be allowed back into the facility.

That's absolutely preponderous!

....obviously, she's mentally ill. I'm surprised that there wasn't better security.

It sounds like she needs a psychiatric work-up. I love cats of all kinds and lions are my special favorites but I am well aware that they're wild animal predators and would never do such a thing. She's lucky to be alive.

Of course she's mentally ill!
She's just very lucky she didn't become their lunch and I'm not joking.
And I LOVE lions, but they are wild animals and had they attacked and/or killed her due to her own behavior, her family would be suing the pants off of the zoo.

same here. i am a Leo which makes them my special fav,too but as much as i love my brother and sister lions - i would not dare think we are that kindred in spirit to ever walk up to one to introduce myself! and here at our zoo you could not get near them! if you somehow got over/around the barrier you would not get back out!

There should be some kind of alarm system that notifies security. Maybe like a security drop that's wired to notify.
