This is pretty much what everyone says when one of these suits is filed. In truth, the licensing agencies involved will make sure deficiencies are corrected and that it doesn't happen again there. A lawsuit does not correct deficiencies; it's just monetary punishment.
The head of the medical center was forced to resign...I thought I read it's closed now too????
I wouldn't be surprised if they filed bankruptcy so as to preclude any lawsuits/judgments.
You are probably (sadly) right.
The docs abandoned the sinking ship!

That's the problem... it's NOT "in truth." Often gross negligence is protected, people rise to their level of incompetency. We see it all the time, including with payoffs under the counter.
A lawsuit like this brings it all out into the open, and it forewarns others not to go there.
I'm all for it.

I certainly think the people responsible should be held accountable for their actions (or inactions) in this case if they are indeed guilty of causing Joan's death. However, I do NOT think Melissa Rivers should receive any kind of monetary award. She inherited plenty of money from her mother. I'm not a fan of our "sue-happy" society; however, as I said, I do think the people responsible should be held accountable and punished accordingly.

They would still have insurance.

Just because she is wealthy doesn't mean she does not deserve a monetary award. Her mother was very involved with God's Love We Deliver. How do we know she would not donate the money?
I've never cared for Melissa Rivers but she's conducted herself with dignity and class throughout this tragic time.

Why do some people think it's about the money for Melissa? I guess it would be an exercise in futility to explain again what it's really about.
But the fact of the matter is, when you have to sue for negligence it's in the pocketbook (so to speak) where you have to hit them.
You can't sue for 'you must bring her back' or some other brand of going back in time. It's money and I'm quite certain that it's NOT about the money for her and her family.

I think that would be great IF that's what she does.

It's really no one else's business how much money Melissa has and what she does with it.

I most certainly agree! You have to sue for money or some monetary gain. What she does with the money is her business. For someone to assume because a person is rich they don't deserve money is ridiculous IMO. Also, I would like to add. Melissa inherited her mothers estate. Joan wasn't all that "cash rich". She owned properties and businesses, and the rights to her name. Because reports have listed a dollar amount to her estate doesn't mean it is all cash. Some assets in an estate can never be sold or depleted, they revolve.
Her lawyers fees should run into a million IMO. What she chooses to do with the monetary gain of the suit is yet to be seen. Melissa and Cooper deserve their mom and grandma back, but that can't happen. I am sure she wants justice for what her Mom was put through. OMG, I read the whole report last night and it is ridiculous. The anesthesiologist asked for help several times and reported Joan's declining vitals. The Doctors made light of it and continued. Then her Doctor (Kevorkian or whatever) disappeared when they got the tracheotomy tray. She left!!! Here is the article I read

I hope she sues their pants off, wins, and that those people all end up in prison.
