After @bikerbabe 's comment, I googled largest armies in the world, to get a sense of how well prepared different countries are.   The list came up with the 29 largest .... and England wasn't even on it! .... so it's at least the 30th in ranking.   When you compare their military budget to what other countries spend, you also see the discrepancy immediately.

Special Forces are usually for very small operations ... a dozen soldiers or less.    If a very small group was needed, I guess they could helpful, but certainly not for anything more substantial.

@Tinkrbl44@cherry@bikerbabe

Special Ops, Intel, Crypto, Communications, Support.

All areas that are our ally the United Kingdom assist; there are also different joint groups with various allies, particularly the British.

British Special Forces have been the lead operator on some missions as well.

Size and monies spent are not the only areas to analyze.

Size doesn’t always matter!

My favourite part of any British event are the horses and carriages.

(Also, Black Rod rapping on the House of Commons door during the State Opening of Parliament.)

That thing about the curtesy,didn't we fight a war about that?

@Group 5 minus 1

No one outside the UK should ever be expected to curtsey .... if Brits want to do so, fine, but there is no reason any foreigner should even want to curtsey!   They have no authority with the running of the government and they are primarily a tourist attraction.    I don't think even a salute would  ever be justified.

When I said that Great Britain is our strongest ally, I wasn’t referring to numbers but their faithfulness to support us. However if you want to talk numbers, from Wikipedia

According to the International Institute for Strategic Studies and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the United Kingdom has the fifth-largest defence budget in the world.
Around 150,000 regular and 35,000 reserve personnel.

I found another list that says they are #6 in military spending in 2017 behind USA, China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, India.

They do their standing army different than we do, in the UK. My friend had a regular 9 to 5 job, but was available on a minutes notice ,to go anywhere, It is a small country by our standards, but a powerful one. He trained constantly in Wales. He carried a bergen that weighed  120 lbs with the extra ammo they used

You will never subjugate the Brits. They are strong and resourceful people.  I would never underestimate the British Lion or John Bull

You seem to want to disparage them,I don't understand why? I can't think of anyone more desirable to  be of help.  They won't cut and run..Iraq was reputed to be the largest army in the world. They conscripted everyone. Men who were so out of shape it was pitiful

The British army are all hardened men ,well trained and equipped. If our army was so great , they should have been able to do this job without help. The SAS taught our trained special forces a thing or 2 ,while on this mission...Like using hand signals instead of talking

It is clear you just don't like them, and that is your privilege, but I will stand up for a great people and ally when I hear them unfairly targeted..

I enjoy hearing and reading about them. I think it's fun, and a bit of  escape from all the dreary news

I don’t understand various posts that are just “I don’t like _____”
