Regarding Advantage Plans, I think it depends on what State you live in.  I have had an Advantage Plan for the last 4 years.  The most I have paid out of pocket is around $200 for the year.  My plan is 0 premium, plus I have dental and vision.  I also get $105 per quarter for over the counter items and $150 per quarter for groceries.  For me it is the best plan.

@quilter61

I live in CA and 3 people I know who've switched from traditional Medicare to an Advantage plan all say it's better coverage and less out of pocket.  NONE of them would ever go back, so there's that.

It must vary widely from state to state.

Not only does it vary from state to state, it varies from county to county.  I have 2 Advantage plans available to me that are only open to residents of the county where I live, as well as 2 adjacent counties where a particular hospital system operates. Of course, the network is restricted to only that system as a provider choice.

Remember The Feldmans who called and got Plan C and now they have dental coverage.

@Kachina624    I learned just this year that there are circumstances that make it legal for some people to choose one of the plans other than during these fall weeks when we're inundated with TV ads, mail, and email.

I can't tell you why I bothered reading the article because I know I'm not switching.

Does it have travel/out of state or out of the country coverage?

For my Advantage plan as long as the doctor accepts Medicare, I'm covered.  I don't think any Medicare plan covers out of the country??

Until you get sick. My neighbor had an Advantage plan and thought it was fine, until he was diagnosed with cancer. Then he had to pay very high amounts for deductibles and copayments. They have since switched to a Plan G. Maybe it depends what state you live in, in our state the Advantage plans are rated very low.

And if you do decide to switch to a supplement, in most states you have to go through underwriting.  Try that after getting a cancer diagnosis.  This enrollment period is only for sigining up for Advantage plans and changing Part D prescription plans.  It's not for shopping for a new supplement.  You can do that anytime, but there's that underwriting issue again.

Your absolutely right @Icegoddess .

Oh it's free??? Oh my goodness let me take it!

I got on it a few years ago and my brother said watch out, once you go "free" there is no going back to the plans "like "G", or "N", etc.

Yes I pay  heavy and got very sick in 2021.  Spent 50 days in hospital, 2 surgeries, etc, always in a private room though. Did not pay a dime after 2 million in bills.

I Can go to any hospital in the US (plan "G"), Johns, Hopkins, Mayo Clinic,  MD Anderson, etc. and can choose whom I like as a physician as well.  No problem.

Now, with this Aadvantage (sorry I don't know how to spell it) your chances when getting cancer are one or 2 doctor's.  Slim to none.

Better to cut back on something else but be worry free.

You can always go down but never up.  Yes, much health testing, records which most people are not that good after 65.  No free ride like they say.

Medicare commercials are year round as people turn 65.  I switched to an Advantage plan last year and fortunately have not had to use it but for $36/month at this point I'm keeping it.  Also has dental/vision/and OTC benefits.  This is with AARP United Healthcare.

I understand that it probably does matter what state you live in and the state of the person's health.  It does seem though that Part "C" plans are becoming more prevalent.

@kaydee50,  I hope you read the changes carefully.  I had a AARP/UHC plan for the past two years but the changes in my area caused me to change.  Increased out of pocket, some increased copays and no longer covering one of my meds all contributed to making it unacceptable.

Hopefully you are in a location where any changes benefit you.

The saddest thing about it is the way seniors are represented. We aren't ignorant, air headed individuals.

It's no wonder that we are targets for thieves and those who might like to harm us, when we are made to appear defenseless. And, disposable.

It's a shame how seniors are treated. There's very little respect and it's only getting worse.

Yes dental and vision are included.  For dental I get a set amount.  Next year it is $2,500.  Everything is covered up to that amount at 100%.  Vision I get a yearly exam and next year they are giving a maximum of $285 for glasses.   These amounts change every year.  However, they always seem to increase each year.

I forgot to add that I also get a $100 per quarter to pay any copays that I might have.  Since most things are covered an at 100% with no copays I usually don't use all of this benefit.  I mainly use it for 1 specialist I see.
