Medicare Supplements vs. Medicare Advantage Plans

Please tell me why you would buy an expensive Medicare Supplement Plan when you can get a Medicare Advantage Plan for practically nothing? I have been in doctor's offices where the patients of both plans are there and get the same benefits and treatment.
