@monicakm You said you got the AARP Unithed Healthcare plan, so you have to have AARP to get it.  If there is a United Healthcare plan G available to you that is not affiliated with AARP, then you don't have to get AARP to get that.  Whether there is a non-AARP UHC Plan G available could vary by state.  I don't remember if there was one available for my state.  If there was, there was a reason I chose the AARP over the non-AARP plan.  It was not due to a suggestion by my broker.  She really did not push me in any direction at all.

Smart choice! With plan G you won't have to worry about anything other than the annual deductable.  The only thing better than plan G is plan F...and people born after 1954 (I think!) cannot get it.

Here's wishing you years of not having to use that great coverage you have for anything other than "general maintenance".

I also chose United healthcare and have plan F which is no longer available. If I were to change, i wouldn't be able to get it back.

Re: Medicare. I'm Officially Old :(

@monicakm   My drug plan went to 'zero' for the year (2024), had nothing to do with the deductible...it was roughly $13.00 in 2023.

The prices (from what I understand) goes by your zip code and I guess we are a healthy group, I reallly don't know.

The deductible went up for 2024 but really does not have an effect on me as I do not take any medications.  I have been blessed with good health.

One minute I think I understand Medicare, the next minute I don't.  There are several posters that have a lot of knowledge and will answer your questions.  I also have no problem calling my insurance agent or the customer service people that I have my supplemlent thru, always helpful as well.

@monicakm It was a few years ago so hard to remember details. He asked me what my needs were and made the suggestion.  He told me the pros & cons of Advantage vs. original Medicare.  Smiley Happy

Re: Medicare. I'm Officially Old :(

@Mom2Dogs our Part D plan went to $0 premium this year.

My husband takes Glimepiride for his diabetes and last year it would cost $13.00 every 90 days.  This year it went to $0 for the refills.

He had to pick up an antibiotic this past week for an infection in his finger and that cost $1.87 which I thought was weird.

We also have plan G. There is no way I would go to an Advantage plan. I just felt if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. So far I've only used it three times (only been on Medicare since September) and I haven't paid anything. I also wanted to cover our bases since we are both healthy. I didn't even look at other companies or deal with a broker. I've always been happy with them in the past. I just called UHC directly and did spend some time on the phone with them and they were great and knowledgeable.

Re: Medicare. I'm Officially Old :(

Welcome to the club! We have been “old” for a couple of years now. 😄 We chose Aetna Medicare Advantage. Works very well for us. We gave our broker our medical and Rx needs and compared all plans gave us the info and that is what we chose. Comes out after we chose our plan he let us know that is the one he chose also.

Re: Medicare. I'm Officially Old :(

It sounds like you did good. I went on Medicare last June. Medicare, Mutual of Omaha, Plan G. and my Rx. plan based on my medications. I pay a $240 yearly deductible and that is it.

Being on Medicare is different and great. I get right into the doctors office, no co-pays, no problems.

Don't every move to an advantage plan. I know I will get some back lash from that statement, but I am a RN who has worked with Seniors x 44 years and I see the differences in care for those with regular Medicare and a supplement Vs. those with Advantage plans.
