@Pinkroses Thanks for the info. Right now, I have no insurance due to being laid off. I don't qualify for ACA credits. ACA would cost me 500-700 a month; Cobra was cheaper, but still too expensive.
@makeup addict- yes I did. Really long story, but I was finally able to get off the HBO I was on and that enabled me to go back to my old primary doctor and away from the clueless primary doctor I was seeing while on the HMO. I had done a little research and suggested my old/new primary test me for Epstein Barr Virus. He did and my viral Titers were very high. They also suspected some thyroid issues. One endocrinologist said I had a problem with my thyroid. 4 other endocrinologists I saw to confirm the first opinion said there was nothing wrong with my thyroid.
They put me on a miniscule dose of Synthroid which I'm still on today and also referred me to an infectious disease doctor who was also vice chief of medicine of a large Atlanta hospital to help me with the Epstein Barr Virus. I take medication for that also and attempts to taper off the medication over the years have not been successful.
I thought it was ironic that it took 2 1/2 years, multiple ER visits and all those doctors and in the end, for at least part of my issues, I figured out the diagnosis on my own. I was very very ill for a time and while I do well enough now, I have to be really careful not to overdo or let stress get to me or my Epstein Barr kicks into high gear.

I have posted several times about the cost of my health care...I am well aware that I am not alone in these huge costs....our health care costs for insurance and a drug plan is roughly $11,000.00 this year.....dh is on medicare, I am on a tradational plan.
I am signing up for social security earlier than I wanted to just to help off set the costs...the whole thing makes me angry.
Why not get a job to offset the costs? Your healthcare costs sound quite high, particularly since your husband is on Medicare.
@Maudelyn That's a thought, but she may not be strong enough to work full time. There are very few PT jobs that offer healthcare benefits.

@Pinkroses If you have recently been laid off - you DO qualify for ACA premium assistance - and probably extra help (CSR) with deductibles and out of pocket expenses too if you purchase a Silver Plan.
Your recent layoff would create a Special Enrollment situation - you will have to estimate what you have received in wages so far this year, what you will get from unemployment in 2017.
The premium tax credit is based on 2017 estimated income - NOT 2016 income.
COBRA is almost always more expensive than ACA insurance...becuase it is the full premium from your former employer - plus a surcharge is added on top of that.
Please call your state's ACA exchange ASAP. You only have a certain amount of time after the layoff to apply.
Please let me know if you have questions...
