I absolutely do not understand people bringing their babies to these parties so that they get the disease and get immunity via the illness.

How is that safer than getting the vaccine?

May their children grow up healthy and live to know more science and understand statistics and odds better than their parents. I fear for those little ones. And I don't want them anywhere near schools, churches, parks, or any other public place where some poor child with a constraining disease needs to be.

I remember a long time ago where parents had these when my daughters now 35 - 42 years old were very young.

They had all of their shots when they were supposed to have them.

I thought whomever attended these parties were dumb then and I still think it.

What if the child got really sick and/or died?

I'm unfamiliar with this practice, but the discussion about vaccinations always turns very, very ugly.

Years ago that was done to make sure someone got the illness as a child not an adult.

That was BEFORE the vaccines, and it was more dangerous to get some things as an adult.

It' ridiculous to do it now instead of a vaccine.

I have heard of chickenpox parties but never measles parties. I would think a parent that took their child to a measles party would need to lose custody of their child.

Is this for real? Do they not realize that there are possible complications of measles that could kill their babies? I'm sorry, but just how dumb can people be?

I posted this earlier tonight on the Health & Wellness "Measles" thread. Maybe it's what the OPs talking about.

Glad to see this thread still active. Just saw this.............unbelievable.

California warns against intentional measles exposures

(Reuters) - California health officials on Monday warned parents against intentionally exposing their children to measles, which could worsen an outbreak in the state.

In response to media inquiries about

so-called measles parties,

the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) said it did not have information on the parties or their frequency.

But it added that the disease, of which 107 cases have been confirmed since an outbreak began late last year, was serious.

"CDPH strongly recommends against the intentional exposure of children to measles as it unnecessarily places the exposed children at potentially grave risk and could contribute to further spread," said department spokeswoman Anita Gore.

In 2011, federal authorities issued stern warnings following media reports that vaccine-wary parents were trading chicken pox-laced lollipops by mail, in misguided efforts to build children's immunity through exposure to the virus.

Yes the article I posted said some of the anti-vaxxers got more stupid ideas and think by exposing their children to the disease they'll get sick & then be immune. BIZARRO!
