Re: Meal From Your Childhood

[ Edited ]

Up til my mother turned 90, she would make my favorite meal for my birthday.......

Smothered chidken breasts or smothered pork chops

Collard greens

Smothered rice

Candied yams

Deviled eggs (which she is known for)

My mother is currently 96

We had cube steak with onions, peppers and mushrooms a lot, and she added soy sauce for flavor. We had it over rice and I loved it ! 🥰

Read these replies. Just finished dinner and already hungry again. LOL.  My favorite meal growing up and even now is any and all huge breakast/brunch buffets. Our family would go to restaurants for these endless tables of delicious choices for birthdays, good grades, didn't matter...as long as something to celebrate.

Even now, I can eat breakfast foods three meals a day. I often make French toast, omelettes or pancakes for dinner.

MRe: Meal From Your Childhood

My Mom was an outstanding cook and baker. I loved everything she made. Mom loved to read and had an extensive cookbook collection. She was always trying something new. I wish I could say I had a favorite dish; she made so many good things. But I guess what I remember most is how my Dad always gave her a kiss and thanked her after each meal.

We had a peach tree and a plum tree in our back yard. Mom made/canned peach and plum preserves every year. And Mom's peach cobbler was amazing.

Man could my mother cook.  Not exotic, just delicious.  Her fried chicken, spaghetti and meatballs, and chicken and noodles were all amazing.  When she made a cherry pie we were truly in hog heaven.  I always got it with my birthday dinner.

I try hard to replicate her Thanksgiving oyster dressing and knot rolls.  What delightful meals she served and what delightful memories.

Things always tasted so good at the beach cabin after spending long summer days swimming and playing outside. Hamburger goulash stands out as a favorite Mom would make .😋

Goulash.  I'm making it right now.  I bottle tomatoes in the summer just so I can make this.

My dad was a meat and potatoes guy and wouldn't have anything else.  So my mom would make goulash for us kids once in a while.  I still think it's a treat.

@Jordan2  I've mentioned this before. My very favorite was fried rabbit and mashed potatoes or turnips with our own frozen corn. We had it for only a few weeks in the fall during hunting season. Mom was a great cook, but this was the best. She would flour and pan fry the rabbit pieces in butter. I would take it over lobster or any other delicacy you could think of. I haven't had it in nearly 50 years.

@PA Mom-mom  I put a heart, but can't imagine eating a bunny.
