Why is this particular case talked about so much? Is there a bigger reason for this case?

I have never believed they were guilty of anything but making a horrible decision about leaving her alone.

@missy1 This thread is old but is brought up because some are darned determined to convince everyone else that the parents killed their daughter.
The discussion will continue to go round and round; the parents killed her, the parents didn't kill her, the culture of leaving children alone, who goes to dinner without their kids, etc. etc. etc.
Until the parents are arrested, tried, and put to death some here will never give in; they WANT them to be guilty because THEY BELIEVE it.
Nothing will substitute that mind set, and I can't imagine being so dug in about this that pushing for the parents to be guilty of murder or selling their daughter will always be all they see.
How sad.

@missy1 Netflix has a new documentary on the case.

I thought this thread was up because of the documents popping up about this. This case was dead for ages. Now, boom....all because one channel decided to do a documentary.
There is no more information. Very little evidence on any scenario. Either she was spirited away or the parents did it, Like the Ramsey case, it probably will never be solved.
Bad decision on the part of the parents for leaving these children alone like that. Interest will wain again like before And it will go to sleep until the next documentary

Puzzling case for sure. I would never leave such young children alone while going to dinner but I understand this was somewhat normal in Europe??? I believe she was abducted and probably killed not long after the photo of her eye was released. This was an identifying mark that could not be hidden. I do believe her parents acted strange but I don't believe they were involved. If they were, everyone at the dinner would have been involved in the cover up and there's no way that many people are able to keep such an horrific secret for very long.

If I remember correctly, they could see the room where the kids were sleeping, from their dinner table AND also, other people were taking turns checking in on the children. They were all doctors and they said the kids were never alone for more than 10 minutes. They were constantly being checked on.
I didn't see anything wrong at the time, since they made sure they could see the room and windows from the dinner table.

@Vivian, resurrected this thread, @Cakers3 , and her post does not jive with the conspiracists at all. I don't know the reason that she bumped this up -- maybe because of the upcoming documentary that @songbird mentioned?
