I'm a dog lover who grew up with several dogs at a time.  And my grandmother actually cooked things just for the dogs.  But dog dishes were never co-mingled with people dishes in any way.  They were wiped and then washed outside with a hose.  I wouldn't even be able to stand having them in my dishwasher.  So I definitely wouldn't be able to eat or drink at your sister's house after seeing that, unless it was off of a paper plate.  But I guess I get grossed out pretty easily.

@Jordan2  I don't think so.

I know many a person, however, who thinks it's no big deal. BTW, these same people see nothing wrong with washing their cats' litter box in the dishwasher with the rest of their plastic items. So....unless I know for a fact HOW they keep their pets' stuff clean, I don't eat at their house/food they bring to an event.

I know of no one who washes their cat's litterbox in the dishwasher. NO ONE and I know a lot of cat owners.

@Sushismom  Ok. So?  Just because you don't know anyone who doesn't do this doesn't mean that's true for everyone else. SMH

The bottom line is there are those who draw the line regarding what should be shared between humans and pets while others see it as no big deal. Neither is wrong; it's simply their preference.

I rinse the dogs' dishes, then they go into the dishwasher with all the other dishes.  Use sanitize setting.

Would never use a sponge to wash dishes.  Germ carriers.

Humans have just as many, if not more, bacteria in their mouths.  Who knows what they are carrying?

It's disgusting to me and not because the same sponge was used - it was that a sponge was used for any dishes as they are germy after one use.  What  is more disgusting than anything is seeing dishes done in water that has food particles floating around and is greasy!  I use a clean dish cloth every day and thoroughly rinse my dishes off before washing them.

I find it gross, but to each his own.  I have two dogs and use a separate sponge to wash out their bowls.

However, my dogs have been known to lick the dishes as I'm loading them into the dishwasher.  I find that yucky too, but I know that at least they are being washed well with very hot water and soap once I turn the machine on.  lol

I think when  you have pets you don't think about stuff like that so much.  I do the pet dishes at the end of my dish washing  and toss the dish cloth in the laundry and get a clean one for the next time.

I have been guilty with the sponge though but mainly that is all I use the sponge for and my pets have their own dishes.

I will keep that in mind from now on and keep one sponge for pets only.

As for using sponges for dishes, maybe I'm the only one who pops my sponge in the microwave for 1 minute after each use.

That kills any germs on/in the sponge, regardless of what I've used it to clean.

Food bowls get washed in sink,by themselves, not with other dishes i use,either a sponge,that i put in dishwasher,but usually a dish cloth,that i use ,then put in dirty rag pile ,spray sink with disinfectant. If i plan on using dishwasher i put it in there,wash and add fresh water daily to water bowls.
