I wrote of my sadness at her passing on another, shorter thread yesterday. Such a deep, rich soul she had.

She left her heart in San Francisco Smile

She loved The City. She worked in SF when she was young as a streetcar conductor, and then became a singer at the famous Purple Onion. She came back often, and became great friends with Cecil Williams, pastor of Glide Memorial Church. She was at the church often and supported their efforts to feed the poor every single day.

The Rev. Cecil Williams, his wife and Maya Angelou:

Glide Memorial Church:

Noel, I have probably asked you this before but have you ever been to Glide? We used to go whenever we were in the city on a Sunday morning. It is a joyous experience! One everybody should experience. He is semi-retired now from what I hear. He and Jan do so much good work for the community!

Hi cody!

We did talk about it before and I remember that you'd been to Glide numerous times Smile

Yes, I was there several times also and regularly support their program feeding the hungry. Glide is an amazing place and Cecil Williams is behind it all. He's an SF treasure, who I have met and spoken with. What a contribution he has made to society!
