Re: Massive casualties at Orlando nightclub shooting

I take no comfort that he was already on the watch list. What are we watching? Apparently nothing, again.

If this is Islamic Terrorism, then gun control is not going to do a thing to stop it. Arguing about stronger gun control (I am against stronger gun contrary, btw) is not going to stop terrorist killing . Look at the Boston Marathon bombings... no guns. Radical Islamic terrorists hate us,our country, our values, our freedoms, and a gay bar is definitely a target. Gay is not okay in their eyes.  Knives,guns,bombs....they will find a way.

My best friend called just now. He just returned from Orlando (he used to live there) and his good fried is a bartender at Pulse. No one has heard from him yet.  That's what is real. People are out having fun, living their lives and then this happens.Everything turns on a dime. It is going to happen more and more. If I had been in Orlando, I possibly would have been at Pulse, dancing with my friends. It could happen to any of us,anywhere we go. Gun control is not the root issue.

How did this person get a semi-automatic rifle and a handgun?

.            Maudelynn, how should I know? But it does not matter if guns are legal or not. How did they terrorists in Paris get guns?  Weapons will be gotten. Just like drugs....just like alcove sure prohibition.   I don't know how people get guns but I know a bomb will kill too. People make those in their kitchen.  Should we have nail control, backpack control, scrap metal control, knife and machete ( terrorist used machete on streets of London) control? Bad guys will always get illegal weapons. I will take my chances with a trained concealed carry permit person taking out the terrorist before cops can arrive.

ISIS put out a call recently for the faithful to kill Americans during the holy month of Ramadan. Looks like this was the first. I hope it was a clarion call to those in our government to take action before there is a second.

more than that - apparently  ISIS announced a few days ago it was targeting Florida. coincidence?  well, no matter what,  i fear we need more people watching those on the "watch" list.  we can't defend every place -

Makes me sick when I hear things like this. To quote the late Rodney King:

And so it begins again.  When will we learn?

Gun control?  Most shootings, except by law enforcement, are done with illegal guns. Figure out a way to keep criminals from having illegal guns, that would be a good start.

Laws are only as good as the ability to enforce them.

@Maudelynn  Wow.  How do you know so much about the mental history of posters here, the guns they have, how they store them?

You've been here long enough to know that posters proudly share this info.

What I am hearing is that he was using a assault rifle.  This is yet to be confirmed by authorities.  Why does any normal person need to have a assault rifle.  I don't get that.  While I would never own a gun of any type I can have some understanding of a rifle for hunting and maybe home protection but a assault rifle only exists to murder large numbers of people.

Here we (and the media) go with the 'assault rifle' dogma again.

Can you provide one single legitimate purpose for owning a assault rifle?  I have never heard one.
