Re: Mary Queen of Scots

[ Edited ]

Walsingham spent a lot of time in France with the protestants gathering information.. In reality he was a cold, dour man so I doubt he bedded Marie deGuise. Marie died early in Elizabeth's reign before Walsinghamcame into power.

I already did a  thesis on the Cult of the Virgin Queen,so I am bowing out.

Recommend watching Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth I and II great movies

They stay pretty close to the truth. I hate those movies that just turn historical fact into bunch of lies, half truths and made up stuff full of sex and

titillation. If that's what you want rent a porno.

I just watched 'Versailles' about KIng Louis XIV. I'm not as much up on France as I am England, but, I don't think he had a brother and in this horror

him and his 'brother' fought all the time. Somebody sits down and writes whatever they want to and say it's about King Louis of France. I hate that. LOL   I never read fiction, so, I just want the real facts as much as any of us

know after hundres of yrs. later.

@SharkE Louis XIV, did have a brother. Phillippe, Duke of Orleans. In fact he was known for dressing up in women's clothes and preferring male lovers. So that part of the series is actually accurate. Truth stranger than fiction.

Sharke, I don't think the English people would tolerate Camilla as queen and I hope Charles doesn't try it. I think they like, to some degree, that he's finally happy with his true love but they don't love some of the shenanigans involved; mostly all the adultery (both Charles and Diana were guilty of that).

A consort, or whatever, yes, but not queen.

Sharke, you have a sharp tongue sometimes but you're really on the ball whether or not you're "naughty or nice". Your posts are really informative and heck, I'm an old lady and I've developed a thick hide so I can "take" most of your pot-shots Smiley Wink

Depends how you look at it. As like her great-grandma Alice Keppell they

earned it LOL    He should had never married Di in first place he was pushed into that. Charles let Camilla get away yrs before and shouldn't had done that.

Queen, probably has another 10 left in her. Her mother didn't die till 101 almost 102. None are smokers, unlike the previous generations that took down every one of them. Everybody is skinny as rails 'cept Queenie, but, who cares when your in your 90's.  Phillip looks like he could go any day now, wise , to take him out of service.

I've read that...was it Philip?...of Anjou (Mary of Guise's...son?) and Elizabeth became loving friends despite the debacle of his "courtship" of her, and was devastate when Elizabeth died.

Now, who is the deGuise woman Walsingham had killed?I'm drawinga blank.

I think that was the mother (maybe?) of Mary Queen of Scots. Both women were devastatingly attractive to men, especial the daughter Mary. I wasn't aware that Walsingham had her killed; can you fill me in a little?

You might be right. Only reason I think he might is the 'boys' accept her and all that other business was long ago. Charles, is a grandfather now and getting ready to see the other one leave the nest. Be interesting to see what happens.

Those headlines on the Enquirer make me laugh. They blame Cam for everything under the sun and she is supposedly into it with Kate, etc.

Missy Kate will be bowing to Cam if she is Queen some day. Cam laid low during that whole Diana death time and stayed out of sight and bided her time till it was safe to be seen in public again. She's played the game and kept mouth shut. Queenie, accepted her, so, that's all she needed to be put over.

I would go to a history website instead of wiki.  We didn't let our studdents use wiki as a source.
