Re: Mary Beth and Just Bagels

Why does it bother you or why do you care how MB pronounces the word bagel ? Does this prevent you from ordering the bagels ? If this is your only problem or concern of the day you are a very lucky person.

I notice Colleen Lopez on HSN, also from Minn, says roof like ruff, and pajamas differently too, we say it diffrently here in MD.  But we do say bagels with a long A

@Shelbelle,

This isn't the same thing, but your "ruff" made me think of my favorite teacher who was originally from SC and she always pronounced south  with a long o!

I think regional accents are so interesting.

@Kitty Galore  I agree with @Tori3569 , I've heard people in PA and also NJ use the "begel" pronunciation. Sometimes we use that pronunciation just for fun because it's local.

Re: Mary Beth and Just Bagels

I don't care how she says bagel but I think she's been out of Minnesota and in Pennsylvania for many many years.  My son was born and raised in Chicago suburbs and now has lived in Southern Illinois for over 20 years.  He speaks with a southern accent now.  So it's possible to lose one's accent and gain another.

@on the bay   Heaven!  Looks delicious.  We used to get challah from Zaro's Bakery in the Bronx.  There was one in walking distance to us.

@Kitty Galore : Everyone  has a different accent. I would be in trouble because of my southern  accent.🙄🤓🤓🤓

The one in Parkchester, we used to stop there often although it was no where near where we lived. Fond memories of Rye bread and black and white cookies

Re: Mary Beth and Just Bagels

It is incredibly rude to publicly correct someone. If the proper pronunciation would be beneficial to the person, then correct them privately.

It was unnecessary for MB to say bagel instead of begel since everyone knew to what she was referring.
