I didn't think clergy were paid so much to officiate. But they are usually invited to the reception and that costs something. Yet I applaud the thriftiness of your son and daughter-in-law.

I was married at the courthouse - we wore nice clothing and our witnesses did too.
I've seen couples get married at the courthouse with the full wedding attire!! Very fancy.

Prince Charles and Camilla were married at the Town Hall (Windsor Guildhall) in 2005. They dressed formally, of course.

Not sure to whom you are referring when you say, "if they" in your comment!. If you read my post you saw what my wife, the bride, and myself, the groom, wore at our courtroom wedding.
Do we regret it? We were there to join hands in marriage, not hoping to see or present a "who wore what" fashion show. Do we regret it? I think this post speaks for itself.

now john i was not referring per se to you. what i meant was there was a possibility that a couple getting married in a courthouse and not getting dressed up a little, may, just may regret later. just like taking pictures. i can't tell you how many times we go somewhere or do something and wish we had taken pictures. we regret that.
i hope you understand. i didn't fully explain myself. ![]()

If a bride and/or groom want to wear jeans to their own wedding so be it. It is their wedding, their call. But I would never wear jeans to someone ELSE'S wedding unless I was told to by the bride and groom. I'd rather be a little overdressed at someone else's wedding than risk being the most underdressed....and the OP could very well be the most underdressed if she shows up in jeans!

I would and I have worn them to many joining of couples. Guess it depends on the style of people one has associated with as friends. As a blue collar worker and years spent auto racing with many of my friends? None of us were GQ material, thus comfort came first when it came to wedding(or any event)attire.
Now I was "in" many weddings where I was expected to rent a tux, and I grudgingly complied. Other than that I did, and still do, wear my comfort attire.
And to those that it offends? I say, PFFFHT!!!!

Oh MIMA I'm so relieved to read that you aren't wearing jeans to this court house wedding! Whew!
What you bought sounds absolutely perfect! Have fun!
