His donation of 25 million to fight ebola sounded awesome to some, until you read that he dropped a cool 100 million for a land deal on Kauai. 25 million=a drop in the bucket to him.

Well, he's ONE wealthy person .... there are plenty of others.

BTW, how much did YOU donate? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

You seem pretty negative for such a big donation!

Maybe if the CDC used their money wisely this wouldn't be a problem. 500 million for bike paths and healthy food education?

Speaking of donations, Al Sharpton did a piece on his show about Ann Romney who is launching the Ann Romney Center for Neurological Diseases at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston.

She's committed to raising $50,000,000 to help fund research for MS, Alzheimers, Lou Gerhig's, Parkinson and brain tumors. She and Mitt have contributed their own money to the cause.

What a good legacy for the Romney family.

I'm not a fan of most public announcements of the things we do in helping others. I've said it before, I think it's much more useful to share stories of others who have been doing good things if our goal is to spread the word and offer ideas for those who want to donate money, time, etc. In the case of those with celebrity and notoriety, however, I think for the most part it's a good idea that we know about it because it might urge other vastly wealthy people to follow suit. I hope it can be done in a way that the aid will be used well, since there are considerable problems with corrupt local government officials in those geographic areas of need.

How interesting that Reverend Al did a piece on Ann!

Politico.

“Over the past five years, the CDC has received just under $3 billion in transfers from the [Prevention and Public Health Fund]. Only 6 percent — $180 million — of that $3 billion went towards building the epidemiology and laboratory capacity. Instead, this administration has focused the CDC on other priorities.”Over the same five-year period, the CDC allocated $517.3 million to the “community transformation grant program,” which aims to increase access to healthy foods and promotes sidewalk improvements to make it easier to ride bicycles.

Why would this surprise you? We have an epidemic of obesity and obesity related diseases in this country. Nothing wrong with communities receiving money to make walking and bike paths and healthy foods accessible. Good nutrition and exercise are the answer to the obesity problem.

More US citizens die of obesity than of ebola....and that trend will continue.

Hiking and fresh vegetables are good things!
