Marine Veteran Crawls Across Boston Marathon Finish Line

Micah Herndon served in Afghanistan and ran in the Boston Marathon yesterday in memory of his fallen comrades. They were killed by an IED. He has their names tattooed on his hand. Ballard, Hamer, Juarez.

He refused help to get across the finish line, and he crawled across. He said he kept thinking about them and saying their names. His legs had locked up around mile 22.

Micah is from Ohio. He said that the pain he was going through was nothing compared to what they went through.

Inspiring and touching

That is such an inspiring story, touching and meaningful.  I am so sorry this man suffered the loss of his friends in war.  Honoring them by running a marathon and crawling across the finish line must have been such an emotional time.  I'm sure his friend's families appreciated his feat.  God bless this hero and may he find peace of mind.

I'm very proud of my US Marine husband!  He's no longer on active duty, in fact, it's been many years, but the saying "Once a Marine, always a Marine" is 100% true!  He can be exhausted and most people quit, but he keeps on going until the job is done.

The optics of this is very touching but I want more of a

backstory of

-who he  is...

-who were his comrades...

-why did he decide to run this year?

The Boston Marathon is pretty tightly regulated for those who qualify.

Those running usually don’t ‘lock up’ or crawl because they ran the

distance many, many times to qualify.  Why was he having issues

during the marathon?

@Greeneyedlady21   The loss of friends has real meaning for Veterans. Micah is to be congratulated for making his friends sacrifices public.

My husband had two tours in Vietnam. We went to D.C. to see the Vietnam Memorial.

He searched the name list awhile then as we looked at the  Wall

he would pause and put his hand on a name. Then another, and another.

It took a long time to view that Wall and he was very quiet afterward.

He was on both GMA and The Today show this morning.  He said he was pretty upset because he had hoped to qualify for the New York City Marathon and his time didn't allow that.

However, Robin announced to him on GMA that NYC said they are happy to have him in its marathon.
