Re: Man steps on bomb, loses foot in Central Park

New York Daily News

The item was not made of gunpowder, but of rudimentary

chemicals, the high-ranking police official said.

There is forensic evidence that indicates that it was not

meant to go off by somebody stepping on it. It may have

not gone off at an earlier time and then it was just left

there,” the Bomb Squad’s Torre said.

“This is somebody who had knowledge of chemistry, but

you don’t have to do anything more than be good with

computers to get enough knowledge of chemistry to be

able to create some of this type of material, readily

available material unfortunately,” he said, without

elaborating on what types of material were in the bomb.

The young man did not lose his foot.  He is undergoing surgery to try to save his seriously damaged foot.

I believe he had to have an amputation.  Poor guy.

Re: Man steps on bomb, loses foot in Central Park

Unfortunately this poor young man had to have one of his legs amputated below the knee.  This story was featured prominently during our local Washington, DC affiliate newscasts since he is from nearby Fairfax County, Virginia.  As reported, he was playing around in Central Park and jumped down on the device and it exploded.  He had nothing to do with the explosive but the authorities in NYC believe it was a device some idiot--my description of whoever would do such a thing--had built, it didn't blow up as planned, and they just carelessly left it.  How sad that the victim's life has been irrevocably altered because of one or more thoughtless, irresponsible people.

Yeah, you know who you are and hopefully someone else does too and will turn you in.

BTW, his name is Connor Golden.  Here's a little information about him as featured on the NBC News website: "Golden is an Eagle Scout, musician and honor student at University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, the grandparents said. He is turning 19 next Sunday."

All good, positive thoughts and prayers to Connor for a speedy recovery.

I really feel for that poor young man. I was just reading he may have lost his leg and his sight may be affected. I hope I am wrong.
