Re: Man Who Walks 21 Miles a Day to Work

What a nice hand up for a fellow human. It's such a feel good story. He walked 21 miles per day to get to work. Left at 8:00 A.M. to get there for his 2:00 shift. In follow up news releases, a banker said that after seeing him walking over a long period of time, he would stop and give him a ride when he saw him. The banker is the one who contacted the media in Detroit about the story. Later on another guy started the fundraiser for him. It sure makes me feel good to know how much people care.

I still say YAY for him. Never missed a days work.

And I say BOO for his boss.

He was a model employee...worked for him for MANY years...and was just making $10.50 an hour????

A stranger started the funding campaign that has raised over $300k in cash and the dealership gave him a new Ford Taurus. What he received was far more than his boss would have given him.

I think it a nice story about the kindness of people. Why are some trying to make this a negative story?

Re: Man Who Walks 21 Miles a Day to Work

When I see a story like this, I think of the conditions that exist for a story like this. Like, why do our cities not have adequate public transportation? I'm happy for this man, but there are many like him that do not get such attention. People just struggling through every day. So we as a society give him $300k and pat ourselves on the back. Meanwhile, our inner cities crumble, our infrastructure crumbles, our schools crumble. It's a false sense of "oh everything is ok. We are a great society. Look what we did." Instead we should be looking at the domestic problems that create this situation and demand better from our leaders and from ourselves.

Or walk 21 miles each way if you don't have a car. That doesn't seem like a two thumbs up.situation to me.

Re: Man Who Walks 21 Miles a Day to Work

He seemed like he was very happy to have a job, to work and be productive, and to be able to walk every day. Happy with the simple things in life. Too bad there can't be more people like this. I doubt he is an isolated case - I mean about working every day and making very little. I think it's wonderful what they did for him about raising the money and the car. It shows you that there still are kind people in the world. I hope he can budget his money wisely though so that he can afford to keep the car. When you get more things, more worries and responsibilities come with it. I wish him well!

I wonder why he could not get a Yearly bus pass? Cities even have help for those who need assistance in affording public transportation. Another choice would be to move closer to where you work if you do not have transportation.

Wonderful story and very happy for him. I hope it makes him happy and he continues to be just the way he is. Good man.

Brii, He has over $300,000 in a fund for him... I am sure he can afford a car now.
