This just happened to me last week. Before that, it would say, "Your offer has been accepted. Pay now".
I always pay, but I was definitely surprised by this. I like being able to choose how I pay not necessarily using my default payment. I guess, now I know!

@MershaThis drives me nuts too.  Offer within reason, maybe just a few dollars less than asking price, and they still decline. Why not just say, buy it now!!

I found this on Ebay's "Making a Best Offer" found in the CS section:

"What happens after you make your offer

The seller has until your offer expires to decide whether to accept or reject your offer. They can also suggest another price. If they don’t respond to you in that time, or if the listing ends before they respond, then your offer expires.

If the seller responds, they may:

  • Accept your offer: Just like any other sale on eBay, you’re obliged to pay the amount you offered. Immediate payment is not required when the Best Offer option is used in a listing, unless you were asked to confirm your payment method when placing your offer."

Read the last sentence.

That's what I was wondering.  What if you want to pay with a different form of payment?

Actually, my usual form of payment is Paypal, and when I get to them, I select a credit card to use for the purchase.

I don't even remember the last time I made an offer, but I will remember this little new development, just to double check.

Thanks for alerting us,  @Mersha

I had that happen once, and the impression I got was that the seller didn't even realize they'd clicked on the Best Offer button.  No thought went in to it.

I just made an offer on an item on ebay as I have done many times before.

This is the first time on "Make An Offer" that you receive a message indicating if the seller accepts your offer, your form of payment on file will be charged immediately and the item is yours.

In the past, when an offer was made and the seller accepted, it went back to the buyer to complete the purchase.

I have no idea when this change went into effect but wanted to share.

@Mersha   As a seller on Ebay for 27 years payment can now be due upon seller acceptance of an offer.  It depends on the parameters a seller creates on their profile.

I've been an eBay buyer and seller since 2000 and last week was the first time my payment was automatically made immediately after the seller accepted my offer, without ever going through checkout.

I have two CCs listed on my account. I went into my settings and unchecked the default (or preferred) card designation but left the two cards on my account. the next time I made a best offer purchase I was able to go through the normal checkout process and had the option of choosing which card I wanted to use when the seller accepted my offer, just like it's always done in the past.

I don't buy from Ebay anymore.  I don't even try to sell anymore. I was new to the site and was taken as part of a dishonest  buyer on one occassion and a dishonest seller on another. I simply decided NOT TO PLAY.

I have been shopping Ebay since 1999. When I have made an offer and the seller accepts, it always comes back to me to buy or not.  I used Paypal for years till someone tried to use it and I closed the account.  Now I use my debit card. You are given the option to use it for future purchases and I declined so it is not on file.

Re: Making "Offers" On Ebay

[ Edited ]

Ebay started this about 6 weeks ago, I didnt like it and filled out a CS form about it, never got a response. but, I still continue to make offers, and it seems to go well if it is accepted.. As long as it goes thru PP I am fine with it and also that my designated CC is used with PP.
