Unless you have some heart or respiratory problems it's not going to kill you to be hot for awhile.
No electricity, no fans.
Reminds me of reading about this woman in Cal. whose power went off and she couldn't get her car out of garage she just couldn't figure it out. She missed days pay. Later on somebody said why didn't you just manually raise the door ? She goes "huh" ?
ROFL
(no, not picking on Cal. just a fact where it occured I already got jumped on one time today for saying "Thank God for my Ninja Foodi"
People are just looking for something /anything. )

I cannot take the heat because a medical condition I have has taken away most of my sweat glands (hypohydrosis, can be deadly). I get over-heated and really sick. Last time I got over-heated I ended up in the ER. I have a back-up plan in case my ac goes out...I either go inside my car or I fill the bathtub with cool water and sit in it to cool off.

OK, no fans. Still isn't a crisis to be without a/c for awhile in the heat. Unless your health is poor.

My husband and I have decided to invest in a whole house generator. It will cost to put in about $15,000 when totally installed. But when the power goes out, we will have a generator that automatically kicks on and will run the refrigeration... lights... garage door, ( TV and internet)... we will use 1000 watt space heaters for heat.. and use cook plates for cooking plus we can use the microwave too..
I know it sounds expensive. But I HATE being without power or at least something. It will run on two 250 gallon propane tanks that will be permanent installed that we will have filled as needed.
This is my present to myself to not have to worry all winter about power being out for days. Or power out at any time of the year. It is just PEACE OF MIND.

Glad it worked out for you. For me I would not consider it a "major crisis". I am accustomed to heat and my body is acclimated to long periods of functioning in it. Keeping well hydrated and movement works just fine with me.
Decades of working in a hot factory and training in triple degree temperatures was pretty much the norm for me. Our whole home AC has not been used for close to 10 years now. Our 4 season patio room AC is only used when my wife is in it, otherwise a ceiling and commercial fan is all I need.
With my body's normal function of cooling itself, evaporating moisture on the skin, it stays well within the parameters of internal heat temperatures. Lots of fluid, some replacing lost electrolytes and minerals, can sustain me for very long periods of time.
Too many, in my opinion, suffer more than necessary from the heat, because they do not keep their bodies well hydrated. Using one's thirst as being hydrated is a big mistake made by way too many. My hope is that a small number, of humans and animals, have succumbed to this wide spread heat wave.
Yesterday our heat index was 110°, right now our outdoor temperature is 67°, but that's been the norm here all of my 80 years.

@hckynut Wow!~ How does your house stay in the 60's when it is 100 degrees outside?
My house would be 90 degrees upstairs where we slept when we had just 90 degree days.
We invested in a new heat pump and now the upstairs stays at a cool 72 degrees. Best investment EVER.

Whenever we have a power outage, I immediately revert back into my camping mode. I am always so glad we used to camp. We learned many very valuable life skills that we still use today. I don't melt because its too hot outside, I turn lemons into lemonade figuratively speaking. I'm a girly girl but can survive without a complaint even in the most unbearable conditions.

Hey @QueenDanceALot ,
I agree with most of what you said, and I am one that has had serious heart/respiratory and pulmonary issues. But "turn on fans" without power? Some may have a generator, but not me.
Stay well hydrated now everyone, and H2o will do just fine for that purpose.

@SeaMaiden how many summer days of 90+ heat does your area get? My DH has been out all month near Tulalip visiting family and he's been texting daily saying it's in the 70s there and dry and comfortable.
