I’ve been reading many posts this month about receiving empty QVC boxes and opened postal mail. So, when my friend contacted me this afternoon and told me the envelope for the Christmas card I had sent him and his wife had a slit open end, I knew immediately I had been robbed. You see, there were two $75 restaurant gift cards in that envelope with the card! After he convinced me he was not teasing, I got online and filed a complaint with the Postal Inspectors.
As luck would have it, this friend has a fairly high ranking position with the Post Office. He knew who to call to ask about unclaimed mail. It’s a small Christmas miracle, but those two specialized gift cards (even he was required to give a detailed description) were found in a box among hundreds of other such gift and credit cards!
The explanation we’re accepting is that, instead of thievery, a high speed machine had knifed open the envelope and the cards had fallen out. Postal employees can do nothing but toss such things into a bin.
If you are ever in the situation where the contents of your postal mail is missing, don’t do what I did and jump to a negative conclusion. Call your local post office immediately and ask how to begin a search in the lost and found or unclaimed mail!
Now, receiving empty QVC boxes is a whole ‘nother matter.
