Do there strictly adhere to this? I have something I have decided to return and it has been about 35 days. Thanks

Go to your order in Macy's website and start a return. It will tell you the date your item has to be checked in by UPS.

If you start the return after their return period, their website won't let you process it.

Re: Macys 39 day return policy

Maybe it's just me, but they have a policy....rules....and so I follow them.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I would not expect or ask a business to take a return pass 30 days on a 30 day return policy. When I order I agree to their policy.

Re: Macys 39 day return policy

@Iwantcoffee I understand what you are saying.

If I buy something then I agree with the stores rules.

There have been a few times when I have asked for an exception with the understanding that, in the end, it was my responsibility to return the item in the time frame the store stated.

Sometimes they have said yes. Sometimes they have said no.

I am sorry but then to ask for the manager to override the associate that followed the rules by telling me no would never happen.

I worked in retail & we were told how to handle situations. Then to have someone throw a fit & have the manager give in to them would frustrate me. I knew it was manipulation by the customer.

So nice people that asked & accepted we "punished" by having to keep something that they weren't happy with.

Pushy, demanding customers that wanted their way got "rewarded" by having their return accepted. Bah.

I can remember not too long ago when they had a very generous 3 month (or was it longer?) return policy.

@Dusty1  IMO, it is disrespectful to throw a fit and demand your way especially something against a clearly stated policy.

Re: Macys 39 day return policy

If a person, say, has been out of town or area, I have a feeling that maybe the store might offer a store credit. (?)

Well, it's worth a try........asking for a store credit.  Not an actual credit on a credit card.

As long as a person has a receipt, and the tags are still on the garment/item and it's in perfect condition, etc.

Sometimes we birthday gift an item, and by the time we collect it from the gift-ee, it might be a few days past the 30 days.

Oh, well.  I tried........

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

The squeaky wheel getting greased modus operandi.

I don't understand why some posters assume that people who ask for an exception for an exceptional situation "threw a fit"

No one here said they "threw a fit" and got their way.

It is possible to appeal to reason, some salespeople don't have the authority to exercise their judgment, and the customer has to go to smeone with authority.  Simple.  No fits needed.

Re: Macys 39 day return policy

I usually shop from Macys online, and when I sometimes need to return something in person, I find they are very receptive to taking the return, and sometimes don't even ask why I'm returning.

I guess you can give it a try.
