My doodle was only 9 years old. He had a tumor on his heart that burst and he died within hours. He was my best friend and like a child to me. I have an autoimmune disease and have had multiple back surgeries so I am at home almost all the time. My sweet dog never left my side, even waiting on the floor outside the shower door for me when I showered. He always looked at me with love, and listened all day while I chattered on to him! He was funny and I miss him so much. It hurts that he's gone, but I know I was blessed to have had him at all. My husband would like me to get another dog in a few months. Are there any particular dog breeds or mixes you would recommend that are small to medium sized? One that's lovable and sweet and loyal? Thank you for listening and for your advice.

Katein: My first dog (lhasa apso) died almost 8 yrs ago - she was 12-1/2 yrs old. I was so depressed I couldn't function. I immediately went on-line and found a woman who lived 3 hours away from me. She had several lhasas that were available the following month. I chose the same breed (female lhasa) - white with tan markings. The following month when the lhasa was 2 months old, the woman and her husband drove to my house with my beautiful "baby" and I fell in love - again. My first lhasa was big --- this lhasa is tiny. I suggest u find another doggie to take of --- and they take care of us as well. This is the most AMAZING breed. They're quiet until someone is at ur door/window and then they'll bark. They're watch-dogs. You can leave them alone in the house for several hours at a time and they won't chew up ur furniture. They follow u around the house - so they're always at ur side. They're very smart - and my lhasa understands everything I tell her. My dog is extra beautiful --- so when I look at her, I feel joyous and happy. If there's a local lhasa apso dog breeder in ur area -- that's the best place to check out.

While I love much of what is said here, please don't buy a dog from a breeder.  4 million dogs and cats are murdered every year because they don't get adopted.  Please rescue a wonderful dog that needs a home. They will love you for it.   Lhasa's are wonderful dogs.  I'm sure you can find a Lhasa rescue site.  Honestly , I don't know why breeding is still allowed.  Until all dogs (cats) are adopted I'd like t see an end to breeding.

Don't breed.  Don't buy.  Rescue.

So very sorry for your loss.  Our beloved furry companions are only given to us for a short time and when we loose one, a part of our heart goes with them. They give us an unconditional love like no other.  My prayers are with you at this very sad time.

Re: MY BEAUTIFUL LABRADOODLE DIED

Thank you all so very much for your words of love and support. The wonderful poem had me in tears again, but tears of hope this time. I'm so glad that so many of you reminded me about the shelters and rescue places, and that's exactly where I'm going to get my next love. I might get two. Several people mentioned considering an older dog and I think that's a great idea. Words aren't enough thanks for all of you, but know that I treasure my memories of my angel and that I'm looking forward to making more memories with a new best friend from a rescue shelter or humane society. Thanks, friends.

Re: MY BEAUTIFUL LABRADOODLE DIED

I am so sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose a dog so close to your heart. I had a little Maltese and I loved her and she passed at 9 years. So quiet and love able dog. I still miss her and it's been 6 years sine she passed. I did get a rescue dog a few months after. She is the opposite of my little dog. She was narley and unpredictable. My vet said to take her back to the shelter. She was not for me. I got nipped a few times but she needed a chance in life. I kept her. Took my mind off of loosing my dog. This little monster kept me going. Took me over a year to get her to trust me. She was so abused. Now she is the best. I'm so glad I kept her she needed a second chance. Like all of us do. She is the best thing that came into my life. She rescued me.
