I don't understand it either.

 

I would also like to see the size of a "regular" role of toilet paper over the past 30 years to see how it has changed in relation to the math on the packages.

I go by square feet in comparing these ever-changing packages.  This bit about double rolls, triple rolls, mega rolls etc. is absolute hooey.
