today is the day!
the new MGM GRAND at national harbor is opening today. this is in the MD/DC/VA corridor.
i know it will probably cause lots of traffic headaches, especially initially, but i am looking forward to going possibly sometime in january.
i am hoping they will bring some great concerts to the area also.

@sunshine45 My friend and I were just talking about going there in a few weeks or so after it gets a little old(er) and not so many people there.
They are talking about the traffic being terrible, etc. Probably not until January. I told her even though we only live a short distance (in Va) we'd probably get get a hotel room(s) (I snore) and spend the night....all the more time to gamble. We both love to gamble. I've usually been pretty lucky.

Hi @sunshine45! We don't gamble but we are looking forward to going to both Marcus and the Voltaggio Brothers Steakhouse.

@sunshine45 Are you in Maryland? We in Va are snobs! Ha! We always got insulted when people asked us if we lived in Maryland. Maryland and Va and DC have always had a rivalry going on. I have lived in Va most of my life. Do people in Maryland feel that way about Va and DC? My daughter is visiting from Denver for my birthday and she said she gets asked that all of the time (about the rivalry).
I think (key word think) it's like that with New Jersey and New York, maybe I'm wrong but that's the idea I get.
Doesn't mean anything just funny how some areas are. One area isn't really any better than the other. It's like I live further down south and we hate to be connected with "Northern Va" although I sometimes for clarity say I live in Northern Va.
I think I've just discovered I'm a snob and goodness knows I have not reason to be. I'm sitting here layered in Denim and Co and Carol Hockman (what a sight) and the heat pump guy is working on it (not me...the heat pump) Ha!
There have been so many strangers in this house lately. Bill the cat is wigging out (he's so protective and nosey). If I've yelled once I've yelled 1,000 times, "PLease keep the doors shut....he will climb up in the rafters downstairs in the laundry room"....Do they listen? NO!
I've found doors open (even the sliding door open all night). Thank goodness Bill didn't discover it! He has a chip but where I live there are varmits in the woods!
My daughter keeps saying, "Mom! I forgot what it's like living here! Take a breath! Aren't you excited about your party we're throwing you! This is what Dad went through when he threw you a party!

I love going to the MGM grand in Las Vegas. This looks like an interesting one too. I will have to check it out when I am in the area.

I am definitely going, but probably not until the Spring. I can drive or take the ferry from Old Town Alexandria, which is what I prefer. I love the National Harbor. I am not a gambler, but the added entertainment and restaurants in the MGM look fabulous.

I will get there at some point, I live in Northern VA, not far from there. I've only been to National Harbor once since it opened. I go to Old Town Alexandria, VA all the time, love their restaurants and taking the water taxi over there once the weather gets warmer sounds nice.

I was at the National Harbor a few years ago. Stayed at the Gaylord. For any non-local people, I recommend the ferry boat across the river to Old Alexandria, VA for the day.
