Yes, @Noel7, I saw that NZ said "enough!" When I was re-checking info before I posted here. Good for them!  I was really, really put off by Westfield's refusal to do anything but allow them to open *more* kiosks and shops in more areas, far from discouraging them.

They have actual shops in Century City (very high end Westfield shopping area in LA) and at the Hollywood and Highland complex where the Academy Awards are held. They have to be able to pay big bucks for these places - way bigger than any company "just" selling cosmetics from a kiosk would have. IMO from what I've read, the actual "purpose" of the business is to both provide "recreation" for illegals and funnel funds to...organizations. The govt of the originating company does NOT approve and has said so - at least, officially.

There is a very nice "upscale" mall in a good area in the city where I live and I never go there because of those vendors that sell out of kiosks inside the mall. I had to fend off seven of them during one visit (I think one of them got me coming and going) and got so frustrated, I haven't been back. That was eight years ago. I wonder if they realize other people might do the same and all of the stores in the mall may be losing business as a result.

You would think so, but in the case of Westfield, they seem to welcome these people with open arms and mostly shine complainers on. No reprimands and no action taken. That *really* makes me wonder about the Westfield organization worldwide and who they are happy to associate with, and why.

It only makes sense that you wouldn't want a business in your mall that was driving people out of the mall for good, yet they have no problem with it. And they get LOTS of complaints, so it's not like they aren't aware. Some big money coming from somewhere...

There's a Westfield Mall south of me.  I didn't realize it was a large corporation.

@tansy i just checked their website. They own close to 6500 malls worldwide. For some bizarre reason they say they have that many "retail outlets" vs 33 "malls." I don't care how they break it down, every one I have ever seen is a mall, period. They are certainly nearly all of the large-ish malls in CA, and there are many.

Ahh, Fashion Square! It was "the" local upscale mall when I was growing up. I don't think I've ever been to it since they made it enclosed. They have a kiosk at Westside Pavillion too, but I don't think at Culver City, aka Fox Hills because the clientele at Fox Hills would beat the kwap out of them for harrassing their women and I do believe management there know it ;-)

Re: MALL rant... need to vent

A few years ago, I was with my friend in a mall in Ventura, CA. I saw a kiosk and I recognized Hebrew wording so I said hello in Hebrew to the guy. He then put some nail polish on my nails - which looked shiny. He told me his father, in Israel, started this company. He wasn't aggessive - so I forgot about him. I just googled Dead Sea Products --- and they're a total SCAM. They're young Israelis who aren't able to work in this country or many other countries. They're taught to be aggressive - and, according to this article, SCAM as many people as they can.

I do so much online shopping I don't often visit malls anymore.  That said, the last time I bought some Camuto shabooties, lol, around July 4th, I went to the mall since Lord and Taylor was right there.

I arrived at the mall too early - the mall walkers were there.  By the time the store opened and I'd made my purchase, all of the other stores and kiosks were open.

I passed a kiosk and a young girl handed me a sample of something, I can't remember.  At this point I feel it's necessary to mention I was barefaced (no makeup).  I thanked her for the sample and she began to follow me.

She said, you need to come here, we have something that will help with the dark circles under your eyes.

I smiled, returned the sample to her and said, you need to go back to your kiosk and not follow me any further :-)

Re: MALL rant... need to vent

When did malls begin giving kiosk personnel permission to harass mall shoppers, for heaven's sake!? In the day, they might have reached out minimally to passers by but they weren't the complete, totally obnoxious jerks they are today. In recent years, I've not been a big mall shopper, so when I went to a larger regional mall in my area a few weeks ago, I was floored by their behavior... I can't imagine mall management thinks this is a good thing but they must be aware of it and you really have to wonder why they allow it to go on. Personally, it's a deterrent for me to go back, even though I have no problems whatsoever walking away from them. They're like the mall version of telemarketers... Hey, if I want your product I'll let you know... otherwise, buzz the heck off...

Re: MALL rant... need to vent

I have the same response to all mall vendors...."I already bought that".

doesnt matter if it's not true, and I don't care.  They turn to the next potential customer.

Don't acknowledge them and keep walking.

Problem solved.
