I've been going to MR since 2016. They are wonderful. The color, for me, is far superior to the drug store brands. This is just my experience. At the salon, they really listen to what you want. My color is custom mixed. I was assigned the hard to cover grays formula. The colorist told me which 2 colors she mixes. Thankfully she did, because since Covid, I am doing it myself. Surprisingly, its been coming out great. I have always watched the colorist while she was applying it, including adding a colored gloss, so it was relatively easy. With MR hair color, I don't get the "hot roots look" as they refer to it. That's reddish, or lighter at the crown, than the rest of the hair. The only negative thing I would have to report is that I do not like the smell of their shampoo and conditioner. It smells like Comet or Ajax. The hair color, does not smell harsh though. So that's a good thing. I highly recommend that you try it for yourself to see if you like the results. I certainly do.

Is it that much better than Garnier, Revlon etc.....

@catlover My personal opinion. It's nowhere near as good as salon hair color. There are some hair color selections from Sally Beauty that are more like salon quality. Their colors look better on the site then they do once applied.

I no longer color my own hair but did so for decades. Madison Reed is by far the best for doing your own hair color. The color stays true, the hair is not damaged, and were I to go back to coloring my hair, I would use Madison Reed.

No at home hair color can duplicate what you get from a professional salon. When I used to get highlights I would do so professionally.

For doing it yourself, Madison Reed is reliable, safe, but also expensive. You get what you pay for.

I started using MR during the quarantine.  I like it because there is no caustic smell and it does a nice job.  It will not of course take the place of professional highlighting and color.  However, for now I am pleased with it and I am saving TONS of money.  The color lasts and looks good.
