Lunar Eclipse. - March 14, 2025

The March full moon is the Worm Moon. Popular legend says it is named after earthworms. Actually in the 1760's Captain Jonathan Carver visited the Dakota tribe and other Native American tribes and wrote that the name Worm Moon refers to a different sort of “worm”—beetle larvae—which begin to emerge from the thawing bark of trees and other winter hideouts at this time.

This moon coincides with a total lunar eclipse, which makes it look red and giving us the alternate name of "Blood Moon."

The peak time for viewing the eclipse is 2:55 a.m. EDT on March 14.  Smiley Happy

Ready!  And here in upstate NY we are supposed to have clear skies, a rarity.

Looks like we are clouds and more clouds.  Ah well, at least I can sleep through it.

@beach-mom

I'm usually up until 1 am. Guess I can stay up another hour to see it at 2 am CT.

I stayed up, have been going back and forth to look at it.  Total obscurity will happen in a few minutes.  Then it's off to Sleepy Town.

Well, my insomnia kicked in so I was up at 2:40 last night/early am so I went outside and looked at the eclipse.  The sky was clear for once and the super bright moon was dimmed.  I could just see a bright sliver and the red hue.  Just beautiful and I felt so peaceful and fortunate to see it.

Ah, @beach-mom ,  have always had a bit of a shiver at that term, "Blood Moon".  Dramatic!  Can imagine under a moon like that, pirates of old being guided by moonlight into a remote smuggler's cove....

Wish I had been awake for it this time.

I woke up at 1:30 AM expecting to get up at 2:30 AM to start viewing. Fell back to sleep.🥱🤣

We saw one maybe 20 years ago??

If you've seen one I guess we've seen them all.😛
