Re: Lost power, but we powered up using the car

There are videos all over You Tube on how to make the conversion wire from the electric car to your home...I think you still need a transfer switch so you don't backfeed electric power into the power company's equipment, which could be  fatal to linemen making repairs.

This!  Anyone using a generator or an EV as a power source needs to pay attention to this.

If a lineman is working on repairs and thinks the power is off and someone suddenly feeds it back into the main line from their own power source, it will likely be fatal.

When we built our home, I had a dedicated panel installed for our generator.  We switch the power from mainline to off, to generator and then turn the generator on.

In reverse, we switch the generator off before reverting to mainline.  I don't want to be responsible for harming anyone.  Generators are wonderful, especially if you live in an area with frequent power outages, but people need to be aware of how to operate them safely.  (And never, ever in a garage, basement or enclosed space.)  Just my two cents worth.

Have a safe and happy holiday, everyone!

@Mz iMac   You've probably seen many on the roads, but just didn't know they were electric.

I do know they are at the Sunoco stations on the Atlantic City Expressway, can't remember if I've seen them on the Garden State Parkway Sunocos.

They had one model of the Cadillac Lyriq (sp?) which is Caddy's version of electric mini SUV at the car dealer where I get my oil changed in AC.  Salesman told me that it took a while to get the one model....

No Ford dealer in the tri-state area could come up with one model of the Mustang Mach E (small electric SUV)--so I gave up!  My BIL ordered an electric Ford pickup and will wait one year.

I meant to say the charging stations are on the AC Expressway.  @Mz iMac
