Just today the woman filling in for the president's press secretary used the you-guys term to the assembled reporters as she was wrapping up.

It's a common term.

@tansy  That doesn't make it right, being common.  And I'd hardly look to politicians and their staffs to speak correctly.

I view her clothing line as casual and so maybe that's why she speaks casually.  I just can't imagine wearing those items in a professional setting and thinking that one is dressed professionally and I'm sure she would agree 100%.

@truffle  I watch all her shows and I'm sure she wouldn't agree 100%.

Re: Lori Goldstein

Our ten-month old grandson goes to a daycare home three days a week.  The daycare provider is from Peru and does a great job with the babies/toddlers in her home.

She refers to all the boy babies/toddlers   "papa" and the girls are "mama".

When she wants to correct them, she says, "Papa, please, papa please..."

(or mama please!)  It is a really cute way to correct the kids rather than a constant

"No".

Should the parents of these kids say, "these are babies, toddlers, not mamas or papas"?

Re: "you guys"  It personally doesn't bother me.

And this is coming from someone who is in no way a fan of Lori Goldstein.

I think the word "folks" in place of guys for casual, friendly purposes might be a better choice to include gender/age/multiples.

@febe1  That's what I said above.  Whereupon someone jumped down my throat and said they'd never call their friends "folks" when I never mentioned friends at all!
