Re: Looks like Medicare Part B is going up again

[ Edited ]

Looking at demographics, my husband and I projected ahead when we married in the 1970s and assumed that there would be NO social security by the time we retired. During my long career, I always called my contributions to social security " charitable donations to help older people," and I was glad to be able to help. I just didn't expect to get a nickel back! I am amazed and grateful that last year I could sign up for social security! was going to wait until I was 70, but I thought I should sign up before they raised the age requirement. Cost increases are frustrating and even scary to some. Where will it end? But, still looking at the demographics, now coupled with evaluating the economy,  I am still happy for anything we get.

What insurance were U on that you could afford to wait till 70 to sign up ?

They would had penalized you if you had waited.

I couldn't wait to turn 65 and get on Medicare. Insurance was stealing half of our income, now, we will have something.

Re: Looks like Medicare Part B is going up again

Suhse, i worked until a few months before I turned 69.  I had group insurance and Part A.  When I retired and applied for Medicare Part B & D, I had to provide proof that I had group insurance.   Since I was able to provide the info needed, there was no penalty involved.  My Part B was the amount it would have been if I had applied at 65.  The shock was that my Medicare premiums (Part B, Part D, & supplemental)  were a lot more than my group premium.  My husband's Part D & supplement are much more than mine are.
