My 93 year old mother has been planning her funeral for several years now. She is still in good health. I am a retired church musician now for 14 years. My mother has asked me several times if I will play for her funeral service. First of all, I am not totally sure that I could do it, and secondly, I am not sure it would be appropriate to do so. I could probably make myself do it, but I don't think it is fair to expect it of me. I would like to have other opinions about this. Would it seem odd to see the deceased's daughter playing the organ at her mother's funeral service? I would be willing to play a special musical piece, but I think that playing for the service seems inappropriate.
