Looking for a clue...Synchrony Bank & PayPal

Looking to make sense out of a letter I received today from S Bank.  To be clear - I've had only 2 credit cards for the past 30 year and haven't applied for any new ones.

My question:  is S Bank and PayPal connected if somebody request a credit card?

Okay - enough mystery.....letter received from S Bank says my recent request  to open a PPal account on 2-22 has been denied - because of.... closure of a previous PP credit account....after checking with a Reporting Consumer Agency.

I did have a cc for a short time with PayPal way back - didn't trust them so paid up and closed account.  Will not use PayPal  to this day.

Since both of these companies are active for QVC purchases - I'm just adding up  my questions - why would Synchrony Bank write me about the denial IF application was made to PayPal?  Wouldn't you think PP would?       Also wonder if some QVC insider is messing with account information - name - address - whatever. Glad it was denied but does make the hairs on back of your neck ............

Thanks

Yes, tried to reach the referenced Consumer Agency with no luck = today

There's always Monday

As far as S Bank is concerned I turned down a $100 credit from Q if I would open a Q card.  I don't go looking for trouble - and that deal would be trouble eventually.

Email or snail mail?

It sounds like a scam to me.

Was it addressed to you, with your name on it, or is it to, Dear Customer? If your name isn't on it, they are fishing for info. Ignore it.

Re: Looking for a clue...Synchrony Bank & PayPal

if you applied for paypal credit (which is different than their credit card) then yes, that is owned by synchrony bank.

if you applied for a paypal credit card then yes, that is also owned by synchrony bank, but works slightly differently than the paypal credit on the paypal site.

there is also a paypal debit card available that has some perks when you use it. that is issued by BANCORP BANK.

if you applied for QVC credit then yes, that is also owned by synchrony bank.

i have and use paypal credit, the paypal debit card, and the qvc credit card. i do not have a paypal credit card.

i am not sure if i answered your question though. Smiley Wink

Regular mail -

Not nice letter head paper like you would expect. but rather off a regular printer - from Orlando - with equal opportunity blah blah printed at bottom of paper.

No signature nor name of person issuing letter.

Just says PP credit account is issued by S bank = which I guess answers one question somewhat.

Thanks for asking

Re: Looking for a clue...Synchrony Bank & PayPal

PayPal credit is a one and done. Good standing or not.

I closed out my PayPal credit in 2013 and I was never late & in good standing.

I wanted to take advantage of some PayPal offers so I reapplied & was denied. First PaPal said wait till Synchrony takes over, all will be good. Nope, denied again. FINALLY got a rep who said PayPal maintains a legacy system.

Too much headache to go thru so I never followed up.

Dear (first and last name)

Inside address is correct

Then body of letter - denied

No signature nor name at end of letter

I'm assuming SOMEBODY  submitted my info and requested a cc  - that didn't work - so letter was  appropriately sent to me.

Bad person had long gone.

@sunshine45 That's almost more info than my little brain can handle.  LOL    Sounds like a complicated financial trap.   I have no need nor interest in dealing with S Bank nor PP.  Got a flavor of PP when Ebay seller took my payment and no product.  PP never even called me back to help.

That was the end of them.

Thanks so much for your experience with them both.

Re: Looking for a clue...Synchrony Bank & PayPal

Consumers who have a PayPal account can set up their bank credit card as a source of payment for any bank that their credit card is with. I don't understand how Synchrony Bank would even be involved. It sounds like there is some sort of scam or identity theft going on if you haven't tried to set up a PayPal account and haven't requested a QVC card through Synchrony Bank. I think a phone call to that bank is definitely in order.

Re: Looking for a clue...Synchrony Bank & PayPal

I got a letter from S bank about ten years ago reminds me I was late in making my credit card payment to a local store...I never had a credit card from that store and after spending an hour on the phone with S bank I decided they are just a collection agency that puts out feelers from time to time to see who they can get to send them money...
