Is taking a lobster on a plane illegal?

This was featured on the TSA Instagram account, as well.

As a sidenote...and a PSA...if question something being

allowed through airport security, you can take a picture

and message on their Instagram account....and they will reply.

"It's actually fairly common in the New England region," TSA spokesman Michael McCarthy told The Boston Globe. "I cannot speak to any airline policies, but TSA has no prohibition on transporting lobsters."

I wouldn't think so.  After all, it may be someone's emotional support animal.  Makes as much sense as a turkey.

Re: Look what TSA found in someone's suitcase!

It was in a cooler. My in-laws have friends who live in Maine. When they fly down, they bring a cooler with live lobsters for everyone. We prepare them, crabs and Silver Queen corn and follow up with peach pie and ice cream. In all the years they've been doing this, there has never been an issue.

I know of one person who flew to AZ with a bushel of crabs; he kept them in a cooler with soft sides. The thing kept moving due to the crabs fussing about. I asked him wasn't he concerned that they would cut their way out of the cooler (those claws are sharp). His eyes got big and then I realized he hadn't thought of that possibility, lol!
