Re: Local Vandalism...what do you think?

I would not entrust my house much less my pets to a 17 year old nor would I leave without having my house set up with cameras that I could monitor while I was away.

It seems the man was too cheap to hire a professional bonded pet sitter and is paying the price.

The insurance company will pay damages under the sitter's parents' home owners policy. She should be prosecuted as should her friends.

I look at things very basically. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Since the cat sitter is a minor her parents will be responsible for her actions. As for other kids involved, I feel if I was a parent of one of them, I would feel terrible and expect my child to apologize and also insist they do some kind of community service and provide financial assistance where possible.

Asking for payment for the vacation is uncalled for. I wouldn't want to gouge anyone., i.e. expensive replacements.

I agree, but I will say this.

If those kids could do that, that, then they come from families where the parents aren't responsible. They fear no repercussions, either from their own parents, or anyone else.

But I still agree with Ford's post. They do need to be held accountable by the community ...law enforcement.

They come from families with parents who are lawyers, doctors, teachers, etc. Families with good incomes. Their daughter is going to a prestige college, the house sitter was planning on going to Yale next year.

I thin they are coddled...and law enforcement isn't following up yet.

Why are they suing for the cost of the vacation?

They say that when they came home...their trip was "ruined."

That is the one over-reach, IMO.

I think the homeowners should make Yale aware of what sort of student they plan to accept and request that Yale withdraw their offer.

O.R. - One of the reasons that the News gave for not publishing the names of the kids who posted their misdeeds on Twitter and FB is because they said they didn't want to mess up their lives - and ruin their chances to get into prestigious universities.

Even the cat sitter's name and family are being kept private - because no criminal charges have been filed.

Sounds like the case with the ex football player - he had to go to the media to get the kids charged.

Affluenza seems to be spreading!

It's terrible. Don't understand how people can act like that. We even had some workers in a nursing home taking pictures of the elderly in private situations and posting them, thinking the pictures would disappear after a few seconds. They don't realize that computer experts working for the police could easily find the shots.

Yes, I think they should be gone after--all of them--to the fullest extent of the law. Prosecute them, put their names in the paper, pay restitution to completely replace everything damaged, and include payment for emotional stress. What they did was clearly vandalism and, in the case of missing money, felony robbery.

Doesn't matter if they are minors, I would go after them with everything I had and would be legally entitled to. If jail time is involved, too bad for them.

Re: Local Vandalism...what do you think?

I don't care what schools they attended or what kind of family these kids came from. They should be held accountable and charged. If that would ruin their chance at a good school, so be it. They should have thought about that earlier.

This is exactly the problem with so much of today's society. They are never responsible for their actions. A minor/ So what? They are or should be responsible for their actions.

Someone said above, the parents should not be held responsible, seriously? Are they not responsible for these "minors"?

The consequences for actions seem to be no where in the "big picture" anymore.

No, the teens should not pay for the vacation costs.

Yes, ALL of the teens should not only pay for the damages but help clean up anything that can be painted/repaired.
