Even the cat sitter's name and family are being kept private - because no criminal charges have been filed.
Sounds like the case with the ex football player - he had to go to the media to get the kids charged.
Affluenza seems to be spreading!
Ahhhh yes, the key. Heaven forbid those spoiled rich kids should have their lives messed up. Kids will be kids, they were just having fun..... PHOOOEY! They deserve to be publicly shamed so everyone knows what they did and are capable of, and their parents deserve it too. The problem with our society is that money covers up a lot of sins. These kids need to be held accountable or they will go on to become self-absorbed adults that perpetuate this type of behavior. I would have some mercy for any that came forward and offered to make restitution, but for the cowards that are hiding under their parents skirts, I would hope their prestigious Universities would rescind their acceptance. People need to stop making excuses for bad behavior and be accountable. Change begins at home.

If no criminal charges were being filed, I would definitely consider contacting the prospective schools. Individuals that would engage in this type of behavior unchecked, will do it again......maybe even escalating to more serious offenses.

If these were kids from poor families, I suspect their names and faces would be on the news and they'd more than likely be charged with crimes.

There should be some punishment for these people. Money isn't going to do it because their parents will pay, or insurance will. They have to be punished for what they did, IMO. It was deliberate and disgusting.

They say that when they came home...their trip was "ruined."
That is the one over-reach, IMO.
It's overkill. Standard practice in law suits. Ask for the full moon and settle for a slice.
I do think the kids, including the house sitter, should be prosecuted and make restitution.
ETA. They may technically be minors but at 17, they could easily be charged as adults.

You couldn't be more right. The same thing happens when parents are inattentive and their children die from drowning or some other accident. Sympathy goes to the rich and prominent and jail for the poor.

Yes, ALL of the teens should not only pay for the damages but help clean up anything that can be painted/repaired.
Forget about any vacation costs. They should pay triple damages for the stress caused this family. Imagine coming home and seeing your house in that condition? Replacing and repairing isn't the half of it.
The parents better pay whatever the home owner wants because if it goes to trial any jury will award them millions. I would.
