Pls folow me, I kept quiet for a bit but write this now to warn others to help other people.Some of you know my dad was in a home, others do not. I never told the whole story since he was in the home. Now I am.
Its a long story but I willl sum it up short as I can;
My dad was in a rehab/nursing home after an illness and he has dementia (we didnt pick it the Dr sent him there after another hospitalization). He was to be rehabiliatated as in rehab @ this home and to go to some place else. But they didnt do their job (long story) and he ended up worse and worse and eventually bed ridden.
We kept in constant contact and visited as much as possible. As dad went down hill, we would tell them theres something wrong, hes sick this isnt our dad, called his Dr did everything and they just kept saying dementia and the DR (at the home) never called back. We tried to get him moved and tried and tried. No openings, waiting lists, etc etc. Called everywhere as we saw this downhill turn in our dad.
To add, my sibling lives farther, and works out of state. And I am not capable of lifting even a gallon jug of water, let alone my dad so me taking care of him was not an option and I was not authorized TO move him, my sibling was and he was trying to move him.
Well we ended up reporting the home to the state who held an investigation (after seeking legal counsel).
Long story short. the nursing home finally took blood, said his kidneys were bad and put him on a special diet/meds etc. and monitored him (this all since the state was there) They (the home) was to transport him to a kidney doctor and we kept calling and they never did. Low and behold he was rushed to emergency and hospitalized. He went into kidney failure.
At the hospital we told them everything. Finally we thought relief, hes in a great hospital, hes getting tests, tests and more tests and good care. Nurses scurrying about waiting on him hand and foot. Thank God! He has bad kidneys and other health issues BUT he came around, hes more alert, more this more that, every day better, we were SO happy.
So now, we find out today (when told JUST today to wear gowns and gloves) he has MRSA! WHAT?!?! MRSA? We have been handling his cups, straws, clothing, you name it with NO gloves or gowns. Thanks for telling us now. Im so shook up, Me, my kids, husband, sibling, all exposed to gosh darn MRSA.
This has been a living NIGHTMARE and I hope to God it ends soon. My dad is excepted into a wonderful home after and if he gets better. Reason being OH MEDICARE starts over once theyre RE hospitalized. Thats why no openings elsewhere when we called for help before, medicare would NOT have paid going form one home TO another but hospital TO another home then they WILL pay for so many weeks. Again, its about the MONEY while my dad SUFFERED and we have now been exposed to MRSA.
The moral of the story is watch your care and the care of loved ones. Hopefully this will have a happy ending. Take care.
