Re: Living/Witnessing History

It seems like every day currently is history making. Maybe just because we hear or see the second anything happens  I remember as a child hearing (radio) some of the first space excursions, but I, too, think it was President Kennedy's assassination.

@cherry, I know the feeling!  At least it's not cold where I am today.

Re: Living/Witnessing History

I was an infant when the first sit ins took place at Woolworth's in Greensboro, NC.  My father held me in his arms as we joined the group of Quakers who stood in silent support behind the 4 students.  I remember nothing about it, but knowing that my father knew it was history being made and wanted to share with me the importance of visibly standing for one's beliefs has influenced my life.  As a Quaker it was my first silent witness.

Re: Living/Witnessing History

Let me preface this by saying I'm older than dirt, so I've witnessed living history forever and a day.  I do think that when television came into our homes, it brought the good, the bad and the ugly for us to witness immediately, making a large impact on most of us.

Re: Living/Witnessing History

Both of my parents were news junkies and if the radio wasn't on then it was the television. Every morning my parents would read at least 2-3 newspapers so as a little girl I was exposed to the Vietnam War, the Iron curtain, The war in Biafra, the three assassinations, Civil Rights Marches, The Six Day War and so on. I agree with you @RoughDraft.
