Litter Question

I have 4 cats (3 grown & 1 new kitten) and I have 4 litter boxes. I was wondering how much litter everyone uses in a week? I scoop the boxes out twice a day and add litter if I need to. Then once every week they are completely cleaned and refilled with new litter. I tend to put quite a lot of litter in each box so they have plenty to dig in. My hubby seems to think I'm putting too much. So what is a good amount to use to fill a litter box?
